To any babywearers,
Caden always naps better in my Mei-Tai carrier than anywhere else. I’m assuming it’s because he is upright but also close to me, too. I’m wondering though if it will be difficult to get him to nap elsewhere later on when he has outgrown his reflux? Right now, he will not sleep in his crib for naps (never has, even as a newborn). Nor will he sleep anywhere really except the carrier or his carseat while moving – never in a still seat. He used to nap in his vibrating bouncer seat but has outgrown that for the most part.
I’m just wondering if any of you used babywearing as a napping aid and how/when your baby transitioned to a different napping place. I can’t transfer him from carrier to crib either, because he is a very light sleeper. So, basically if I want him to take a decent nap, I wear him around the entire nap. He has always been extremely difficult to put down without waking – even day 1 in the hospital. So, I’m just planning to continue this as long as needed but am also curious as to how things will change as he gets heavier/older.
Thanks!
April 10, 2007 at 4:32 pm #30030hellbenntKeymasterhi there,
I wore jonah to sleep for a long time, but I then put him in the crib- he didn’t stay asleep too long, though
he miraculously became a good napper at 18months…he was also pretty good about night time though…
sorry this doesn’t help you or make it seem like it got better anytime faster…
here’s a post I wrote about getting him to nap: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1450&a mp;a mp;PN=1&TPN=2
hang in there!

jonah also slept in the car & I found myself taking the long long way home but he was my first & I had the time to linger in the car…if he was my second (or 3rd or 4th, LOL) then I probably would do what you’re doing…my school of thought has been to do what works until it doesn’t work anymore

April 11, 2007 at 2:20 pm #30084AnonymousInactiveBrianna was the same way. Here is what I would do. I would always try the first nap of the day to be in the crib. If that one was decent I would try again in the PM. If her AM nap was bad, well then we would just go for an hour walk or so for her second nap. That worked well for me because as she got older and I was ready to try some type of sleep training, she was still familiar with her crib. Of course she was also my first so I had the time to do this. If I end up with another reflux baby, I am sure I will be the same as you…do whatever works and eventually everything will work ourt. good luck!.

That’s my thought too – just do it as long as it works, and if it stops working, we’ll move on to something else. It’s nice to find support here. You know people who don’t have reflux babies, don’t understand what we go through or why we do the things we do. I have friends and family who tell me that it’s not a good idea to get Caden in the habit of being worn during naps, because he’ll never nap in a crib…well, guess what? That’s why I started doing this in the first place, because he wouldn’t nap in his crib! So, they just don’t get it.
Anyway, thanks for the support!

just wanted to let you know i was there too! and there is hope.. Shane NEVER ever took naps since we left the hospital and he too was SUCH a light sleeper..and still is.. i cant even walk by his room without waking him up!! if my husband tries to talk to me and we in any sight of his room..i am like shhh! haha, and he is like” your kidding me right”.
anyhow, i wore him too.. either had to wear him ..or the swing would work for 30 min. to the dot! does he like a swing?? that was my saving grace for night time too.. the cradle swing is the one we had.
also you can let your friends know that they do transition just fine from being worn to the crib when they are ready to lay down 😉 but for now, i did as you are doing .. just trying to get them to nap anyway you know how…
