Any suggestions? We’ve tried everything short of turning her upsidedown. She gags and spits it back or holds it in her cheeks and lets it run out. Also- how long until this kicks in? Had a good day yesterday-though I think she was just so exhausted from the day before and today we are back to all day crying(except when in the car).
July 2, 2008 at 4:22 pm #53298AnonymousInactiveAre you putting it in a syringe with water?
Or do you have the compounded prevacid? This sounds a *little* mean, but can you aim in the far back of one side of her cheek, near her throat and squirt, then blow in her face? her reaction will be to swallow. If SoluTabs, we placed the tablet on a baby spoon (as early as 6 wks of age) and just moistened it with a few drops of water) landen loved taking it from the spoon. Also, it can take up to 2 weeks to really see the effects of a ppi, so you want to give zantac or mylanta if you have it 4 hrs from the prevacid. we saw results after 6 days though. good luckHTHjilly782008-07-02 16:23:34
July 2, 2008 at 4:29 pm #53300AnonymousInactiveI was going to suggest what Jill said. Put the syringe far back in the cheek and blow! Also, remind me how old she is…could you mix it with applesauce?
Good luck! I know it can sometimes be tricky!July 2, 2008 at 4:53 pm #53305AnonymousInactiveCatelin is almost 9 weeks and I have the liquid compund. Do you guys suggest switching to the solutabs? I know she’s on a very low dose but if the solutabs are better, i want to switch regardless. How long until you noticed improvement or should I count improvement out with this tiny dose? Also, did you guys notice it peak at 8 or 9 weeks because prior to monday she was managable, now-outof no where- we are in hell.
July 2, 2008 at 4:55 pm #53307hellbenntKeymasterNEWSFLASH!!!! YOU CAN GET CARACREAM!!!!
YAY!!!! IT’S A LIQUID!!! IT’s MADE PROPERLY!!!!I AM SO EXCITED I AM SCREAMING,LOL!!!July 2, 2008 at 5:33 pm #53311AnonymousInactiveOK, in lamens terms-what is Caracreme??
July 2, 2008 at 5:39 pm #53313hellbenntKeymastercaracream- this is where you get a prescription for either prilosec or prevacid capsules. then you buy the caracream kits (now called Buffer Babies). you then act like a mad scientist at your kitchen table and follow the instructions (or get your husband to do it, LOL!) for how to mix up the capsules and the mix. then VOILA! you have an easy-to-give liquid that you can give at ANYTIME (don’t have to time around meals) to your screaming baby. whoohoo!!!
July 2, 2008 at 5:43 pm #53315AnonymousInactiveAH-Ha! Thank you! Based on this email, is it safe to assume the tabs are better then the compound(since the compound is a liquid already)?? And why is the cream best, for taste reasons?Sorry for repeat questions!
July 2, 2008 at 5:48 pm #53317hellbenntKeymasternothing is ‘better’ than anything else. each baby is different. MANY MANY have had GREAT success w/ the solutabs. the solutabs are one FORM of prevacid. the negatives about them are that you have to give on an empty stomach and this can be difficult for a baby. other negatives are the inactive ingredients in the solutabs themselves: there are trace amounts of aspertame and also lactose. lactose is a milk sugar, not a milk protein, so there ARE babies w/ MSPI (milk/soy protein intolerance) that have done GREAT with them. the positive is that they are easy to find/get and relative easy to give.
Caracream is a liquid. it is easy to give to baby. it does not have to be timed around meals. it does not contain any ingredients to bother mspi babies.July 2, 2008 at 5:52 pm #53319AnonymousInactiveI know you aren’t an “expert” but in your opinion, do you think it would be beneficial for me to split Catelins dose of 7.5 in half rather then just once a day? And, I can’t seem to find out how lonf peopel think I should give Prevacid at this dose before fighthing for a change?
July 2, 2008 at 5:55 pm #53321AnonymousInactiveAnother “mean” way to get little ones to take liquid meds (when all else fails):
Plug their nose, then squirt the med into their cheek at the back really fast. They will have to swallow the med to breathe. I know its mean, but its better than getting no meds down at all.July 2, 2008 at 5:57 pm #53322hellbenntKeymasterI would not split such a low dose. I would fight for an increase. I would find out ‘proper’ dose from here:
I would give max dose of zantac, too, if you have zantac.you could certainly give the 7.5 dose a good two weeks before asking for an increase! this is certainly fairJuly 2, 2008 at 5:59 pm #53323AnonymousInactiveMy ped wont increase! Thanks for the two week suggestion, sure hope somethign chages. BTW, do you still have a baby with reflux????? If so(or even if not and you can remember) can you explain this sudden increase in symptoms????
July 2, 2008 at 6:13 pm #53329hellbenntKeymastercould you go to the upper right-hand corner of the screen & click on ‘settings?’ thanks! then go to edit profile and then edit signature. if you could put some info in your signature then we all would see how old baby is, meds, form of med, dosing, formula or breastfed, what formula, etc…
thanks! it’s hard to keep track of all these GERDlings!to answer your questions: no thank G-d my baby is reflux free. he’s just about five years old now and has been med-free and reflux free since he was 12 months old (give or take, lol!). My second son, thank G-d, was reflux-free. I remain here to help others. Unfortunately, over the past five years not all medical professionals have come on board with reflux knowledge regarding infants…to explain the sudden increase in symptoms I’d have to go back a page, lOL! and I can’t do this from typing here. I’d say that the reflux was never properly addressed and it’s been ‘building’ over time. if it’s a MSPI issue then for sure the ‘offending’ proteins have been building up…July 2, 2008 at 6:20 pm #53331AnonymousInactiveFilled out my signature! Limited characters allowed so
i did some abbreviating. Should I contact Dr. P?? -
