The latest – we went to our primary doc today and she upped the meds to 30mg!!! YAHOOO! I was completely prepared to fight (had my marci-kids stuff with me and everything) and I didn’t even really need to. I just told her what I found out from all of you and she came around pretty quickly. Thanks to all of you for sharing your knowledge and lending a shoulder. I am so excited and hope this will be the key to making things better for Jacob. I will keep you posted!
I am going to give the increased meds about a week to kick in and then start considering changing formula, or adding oatmeal, etc. if necessary.
Thanks again!!!

October 16, 2006 at 1:53 pm #15802AnonymousInactiveGreat news!! I hope things turn around soon for your little guy. 30 mg of Prevacid was the miracle cure for my son. I hope it will be for Jacob, too.

Hope the higher dose works. We also didn’t have any of the MSPI symptoms, blood, mucus stools and the Neocate really helped. She was on Nutramigen but was still bothered by it. Good Luck

Jacob has been on the 30mg of Prevacid (up from 15mg) as of Monday, but he seems to be feeling just as bad as ever! I just don’t know what to do. I thought the Prevacid would be the magic we’ve been searching for, but now I am worried that it won’t be. I think I have to give it a few more days before we move onto the next step, but I am a bit concerned. He’s so uncomfortable.
Also, my doctor said that we should try Soy formula? I haven’t seen too many people talk about that in the posts…..thoughts? And do you switch formulas “cold turkey” or slowly?

Neocate has no milk proteins at all it is amino acid based. Soy formula still bothered Abby and it constipated her also. I can’t remember the exact % but a lot of babies that are allergic to milk proteins are also allergic to soy proteins. If you really think it might be a MSPI I would just probably go straight to Nutramigen or Alimentum. A lot of babies also have a MSPI along with reflux and sometimes a MSPI can actually cause reflux. I always switched cold turkey b/c I wanted the new stuff to get into her system ASAP to see if it helped. Your ds is still young so he probably won’t have a problem. I even switched Abby cold turkey to the Neocate and she had no problems. Hope you find something that helps soon.

there’s a ‘section’ about different formulas, etc
usually people find success switching formulas gradually by slowly adding the new formula to the old formula, over a period of time, until eventually the bottle is all ‘new’ formula
