I can’t figure out why Noah loves to drink water and tea. He can go for hours without a single sip even though I offer juice, milk, pediasure, chocolate milk etc. But then I can give him a glass of water and he chugs it down! I dont understand this. Why is it that he seems to like to drink water, but then refuses anything else that has calories or nutritional value? Does anyone else have this problem?
October 19, 2006 at 9:20 pm #16143AnonymousInactiveYes, unfortunately – no idea why…. which is why we do not offer water much (but we have the tube so can get liquids into him that way)… he also chugs down bath water (we bought some cups at BBB and i swear he is taking in a couple of ounces at least from bath water).
Can you add Duocal to the water?? We did for some time and Matthew did not mind it at all… i assume you can make it pretty calorific, ie 30cal per ounce??
October 19, 2006 at 11:32 pm #16163AnonymousInactiveWater helps reflux, I have no idea why, but my mom (she has severe gerd, barrett’s esophogus) told me to give Aidan some water after he eats his meals, and it really does seem to help, she said that for some reason drinking water after she eats helps her as well. ( this is soooooo not scientific info!!!)

October 30, 2006 at 8:26 pm #16865AnonymousInactivewe dilute soy milk-4 oz with water 2 oz. and he loves it. boy, do you have a problem if you don’t fix it that way!!!! no juice or tea-won’t fly-we’ve tried it all…i live in fear of a hurricane where i can’t cool the soy milk!
p.s. we add a splash of aloe vera too to help with his reflux and this is all the meds he needs for it at age 2.5 yrs.
October 31, 2006 at 9:55 am #16902AnonymousInactiveHailey also prefers water- or correction, bathwater, LOL! What a wierd child I have!!!
What kind of tea does he like? That’s one thing that I haven’t tried, and I’m desperate so I’ll try anything.
October 31, 2006 at 10:37 am #16908AnonymousInactiveSame here, Brodie loves water, I used to always joke, great no calories and he loves it, so it fills him up with no real benefit, other than hydration!!!!! I used to even dilute his juice with water in hopes that he would chug it too, but that doesn’t work. Strange that it is common for others. I guess it could be worse, we could have the complete opposite problem, where all they want is juice and refuse water! I actually have stopped filling his cups to the top with water, because he’ll drink it all! RLM4262006-10-31 11:58:28
October 31, 2006 at 12:23 pm #16920AnonymousInactiveAlexis is the same way, she will only drink water, no juice or anything else. She will only drink milk out of a bottle!!!STILL!!! But she will drink water out of anything! I just don’t understand either. Grandpa just introduce her to soda pop and she seems to like Diet Coke only! I don’t give her much pop but it is very odd!
October 31, 2006 at 12:34 pm #16923AnonymousInactiveHi Sue,
I’m glad Brodie isn’t the only one still having a bottle. It sounds like we are in this together and I am glad I am not he only one who still allows this. One of my friends thinks I am nuts! He has two per day, morning and night. I have had some luck in getting him to drink vanilla milk (Horizon organic, it comes in a juice box type container) and is fairly sweet. He will usually drink 3-4 oz of that per day, and sometimes I mix it 1/2 vanilla milk and 1/2 regular whole milk. I just bought Carnation instant breakfast to try, but…. I am so reluctant to give up his bottles because his calorie intake would drop substantially.

Yep, we are still taking the bottle but the hole in the nipple is larger than a straw, she sticks her finger in the nipple hole yet she refuses to drink milk any other way, she is only taking 8ozs a day sometimes she has 2 (8oz) bottles a day but very rarely. It is the only way she takes it, at this point I really don’t care since it took forever for her to actually drink from a bottle when she was younger. She will give it up when she feels like it. Funny thing is, she is potty trained but refuses to give up a bottle oh well! What can you do!
