Hi guys. We thought that they had finally found out why my baby was so sick…he tested positive for the C-Diff, not just the bacteria, but the actual toxins. He did great until about 3 days after finishing the Flagyl, but within 3 days all the symptoms were back, pooping lots of pure mucous. Although the stool test was negative, the Doc started antibiotic again. Within 24 hours he was back to normal. But 3 days after finishing that set of antibiotics, he started passing even worse mucous. He is now on his 3rd round of antibiotics for C-Diff, even though the C-Diff test keeps coming back negative. The doc is now saying that the C-Diff may have been more of a result of different, probably bigger problem, with his intestines. He is saying that the colitis (obviously pretty severe) is being caused by something else that keeps flaring up whenever the antibiotics are stopped. Anybody have any idea what could be going on? They are scheduling a biopsy and endoscopy this week. I know the biopsy is looking for hirschprungs, which according the research I have done is a REALLY bad thing if you have colitis, but I have no idea what the endoscopy is looking for? I am so tired, tired of doctors appointments, tired of stressing out, tired of crying, and tired of not knowing what is wrong with my baby!

I’m sorry I have no advice, just wanted to let you know that you guys are in my prayers and although I’ve not been in this exact situation, I can certainly relate to stress and crying and having to wait to find out what is wrong with your child. Hang in there. He’s going to be ok. HUGS!

Even if the tests are coming back negative it is possible that it is still in his system. I hope that all the new tests they are going to run will finally figure out what is causing all of this. Poor little guy… 3 rounds of antibiotics have got to be tough on him and you. I will keep you all in my prayers and I hope you get answers soon. Sorry that I don’t have any useful advice.

GI yeast overgrowth could also be a problem that antibiotics would only worsten. Does he have diaper rash or a red ring around the anus?
Is he on any meds or probiotics? I highly recommend a good multistrain probiotic since he’s been on numerous courses of antibiotics. We use Ther-Biotic Infant Formula probiotic by Klaire labs and it has been wonderful for our daughter. Definately the best probiotic we’ve used, and is dairy, soy and gluten free.May 22, 2008 at 10:14 pm #51704AnonymousInactiveHe is only two months old, therfore the only thing he eats is Neocate. He doesn’t have any kind of yeast rash (I’m vert farmiliar with those) As far as the probiotic goes, the ped GI doesn’t want him taking them until he is at least 6 months old…I can’t remember exactly why. I am going to keep the ther-biotic formula probiotic in mind though.
