I have a few more questions for you lovely ladies! Thanks in advance for taking the time to help me out. It’s GREATLY appreciated!
What was your child’s weight gain like before diagnosed MSPI? Everything I’m reading says that babies with food allergies would struggle to gain weight or be labelel FTT. However, my little chunker is almost off the charts in terms of weight and height. He doesn’t eat too frequently…about once every 2-3 hours during the day and longer at night, and only nurses on one side for about 10 minutes before he is done. I’m pretty sure I have an oversupply and am block feeding in 6 hour blocks.Should I be avoiding soybean oil? I have been, but it eliminates a lot of things that I could otherwise eat.So far, it’s been almost 2 weeks of complete dairy/soy elimination. I’ve also been avoiding corn, tomatoes, nuts, and shellfish for about this same amount of time. Chocolate has been out for about a week. I feel like I’ve cut out most of the common allergens, but maybe I should cut out wheat?Still seeing occasional green mucousy poop and also foamy poop. Foamy poop? Is this allergy related? He pooped while I was changing him and it was really foamy. The smell isn’t bad. To me, it still smells sweet like BM poop should smell, it’s just sometimes a funky color and/or consistency. His congestion seems a lot better.January 15, 2011 at 11:13 am #67593hellbenntKeymasterI think foamy poop is from the oversupply you’ve mentioned?
I’ll send erin an email to check this post!January 15, 2011 at 1:31 pm #67598AnonymousInactiveThank you! I’m really close to just doing the TED for 2 weeks so I can stop guessing what it might be.
Is there any way that all of this could be related to oversupply/lactose overload? I’ve read some of Erin’s posts, and “stinky gas” seems to be a big sign of allergy, but he’s never had this. And his poops are sometimes/often green with mucous or foam, but they still smell sweet. I’m still doing 6 hour blocks, and still get pretty engorged on the side I’m not using at the time. Should any kind of engorgement still be a problem? I totally thought that by this point, my supply would have regulated by now. Maybe I should try 12 hour blocks? Or maybe it’s all a moot point b/c this isn’t really the problem….This is SO frustrating!!!! I just don’t even feel like I’m on the right track…….. :o(January 29, 2011 at 11:33 pm #67753AnonymousInactiveThe green foam is usually due to oversupply–too much foremilk and a lack of hindmilk. The block feeding should help. I’ve heard of some people needing to do really long blocks (10 hours) and pumping just enough to relieve the engorgement on the other side–(but not enough to increase supply)
Bodhi hasn’t ever had stinky gas either– I have the same question as you. I know I have an overactive letdown…but I’ve never had green foam–just lots and lots of mucus with a sweet smell, gas pain, fussiness. -
