My son’s cheeks turn bright red (i mean bright red!) and chin too. The other parts of this face (lines on side of nose etc) stay very white/pale. Ped has blown it off as chapping but my son is RARELY exposed to the cold air. And for example, it happened today. He woke up with no red cheeks….never went outside and has had red cheeks cduring the day. Some people have told me that happens with teething. He was drooling a lot LAST weekend and chomping on his hands. But that lasted two days and nothing since then. My ped keeps fighting me about allergies (if you’ve read my other posts you know we are finding ANOTHER GI, going to an allergiest next week etc) saying he has no other symptoms other than extreme fussiness (no rash, blood in stool etc). It just dawned on me that this could be a rash that comes after eating….no? My husband and I think it’s peculiar. So waht do you think? Chapping, teething or rash?
February 5, 2006 at 6:02 am #781AnonymousInactiveDonĀ“t know about rashes but we thought that Matthew was reacting to something because his right cheek was really really red for a few days (he has the tube taped to the other one). So was going to call the doctor. Then he puked and tube came out so we had to put it back in and put it on the right… well now he has the redness in his left and nothing in his right!!! So i am thinking it needs to be from cold OR from teething (his 2 front teeth are out but the rest are coming!!) and that the tape around the tube protects him on the other side — it covers his whole cheek and it is transparent, so i would see clearly if it was red… that is our experience!!

We were told repeatedly that the rash was normal and that she would have other symptoms if she had an allergy. In hindsight, we also realize that her constipation was a symptom of her allergies as well. Apparently some babies react with diarrhea and others get constipation. That being said, it’s so hard to figure out what’s going on with these babies. It is entirely possible that his rash is due to teething and nothing else.

and goes, he may be fine one minute and the next time I look at him
they are bright red – an hour later it may be gone. I truly
thinks his is only from teething. I have also noticed that he
chews on his hands a lot when he is teething and then rubs his face and
sometime the red area appears whereever he was rubbing. They sure
are a mystery, aren’t they?February 6, 2006 at 9:29 am #897AnonymousInactiveIsaac has a red rash on his chin, cheeks, and nose from teething. We know it is not allergies b/c we had an endoscopy done. It showed no allergies to what he has been eating. It is hard to say what it really is though.
