Just need to vent for a moment. My 5 mo old son has some bad reflux that got better when we started a combo of Pepcid and Prevacid a few months ago, and then began to get bad again the last few weeks. He has horrible congestion all the time, he goes back and forth between a lost voice and a diminished voice, he wants to BF CONSTANTLY and he’s overall miserable and irritable always. He also has Sandifer’s and I’ll see him make some jerky move or his eyes will blink or roll back oddly and then it’s always followed an audible swallow.
Anyway, I called my horrible ped GI doc a few weeks ago and she upped his doses a bit. He’s still miserable. I called again to ask about using Caracream / look into trying a different med and I get no call back for 3 business days. Finally, I call again and the nurse calls me back. She tells me “I asked our dietician and she’s never heard of this Caracream.” Great…that’s why I gave her the website. Then, she says “Well, he’s on the max dose.” (No….he’s not) And then she asks “How do you know he really has reflux?” Really?? I am angry now but holding it in. Then, as I calmly explain his symptoms she says “Have you ever considered that it could be colic?” AHHHH!!! So frustrating.
Just needed to vent this.

fight the good fight!FAX THEM if need be…TELL dr you need ______, don’t ask. TELL.
FAX FAX FAX the dr
stick to the FACTS (no emotions and ramblings)
state current meds, doses & symptoms
make request- flat out- short & sweet
provide pharmacist name & contact info
follow up by calling office to tell them fax was sent
call again later to discuss requests made in fax, ie:
is RX called in yet?
THANK YOU

I once had a dr ask me, “How do you know about elemental formula?” It’s like they think only they have the sacred answers! And seriously, how do they not know about bufferbabies/caracream? They have been treating babies with reflux for probably a long time and no one else has mentioned it???? Sometimes I think they are just pretending because they don’t want to sound like they are advertising a product. And seriously, even if I have to go broke paying for the formula, tell me honestly what my options are. It’s like they are afraid to tell you that a hypoallergenic formula is what is needed until your child is in so much pain, can’t eat, and reflux/MSPI diagnosis is absolutely obvious! I’m venting right alongside you! Thank goodness we have a place to vent where everyone understands where we are coming from!

THIS is why I cannot leave this board!EIGHT YEARS LATER and STILL the same old same old! Please post your ped GIs, the GOOD and The BAD, please to help others who may come upon this board after you’ve goneAugust 4, 2011 at 1:17 pm #68786AnonymousInactiveThanks for the responses! It’s nice to have others that can relate. The nurse called me back after talking to my ped GI doctor and told me the doctor will not approve of the use of CC because it isn’t FDA approved (I’m doing it anyway). So, I said “Well, my son is miserable. The current meds as they are prescribed are no longer working. What does the doctor recommend?” She tells me that the doctor refuses to adjust any prescriptions until my son comes in for his next visit (2 weeks away!) because it’s impossible to make any decisions without a physical assessment. I honestly believe the doctor just wants more money before she does anything for me and she doesn’t care if this means 2 weeks of unnecessary misery for my DS. I mean, what does she need to see? It’s not like she’s going to scope him. Last time we were there for an appointment, I don’t even think she examined him…just went off of what I had to say. Yes, I will be posting my ped GI review shortly…
August 4, 2011 at 5:09 pm #68787hellbenntKeymastertell your doctor that use of PPIs w/ infants is not FDA approved!!!!
don’t quote me on this! I seem to recall a ‘conversation’ about this here…(not meaning to scare anyone, just that the FDA doesn’t want to mess around w/ potentially putting infants in harms way- in fact, I don’t think there are too many medicines that ARE FDA approved for infants? )hey check this out! -
