here’s a link- tell me if it’s helpful, lol!
article to help figure out how to reintroduce food from elim diet? Tracy’s post:
(http://allergyadvisor.com/Educational/December_2.htm scroll down to ‘C’ orange/mustard box-it’s the SECOND orange/mustard box)as for wine- go for it but maybe you want to try grapes first. lol?maybe white organic grapes? less tannens…whatever that might do for you, LOL! hey you can have potatoes right? go for the vodka! LOL!also: I didn’t see black beans on that list…maybe try them?keep us posted (I am fascinated!)August 6, 2008 at 10:00 pm #55145AnonymousInactiveOkay, so last night we went out for my friend’s bday. I think the waiter thought I was anorexic b/c I ordered a salad w/ only vinegar & oil & a plain baked potato… I stressed that they both be plain. Then, when he passed around bday cake I (obviously) didn’t have any.Anyway, I had one glass of red wine over the span of 3hrs. I nursed Evan basically right when we got home. He had stinky gas & a mucousy diaper today so who knows. Maybe the pork was still in his system or maybe it was the wine.I’m going to hold off on adding anything else until Friday or Saturday just to get to the baseline again.Dianne – Yes, there totally could have been something on/in the pork. It was catered so I don’t know the recipe/ingredients. I probably should have passed but it looked SO good & I was ready to add something in.Emily- yes, still no Prevacid (or Zantac or Mylanta). I’m completely prepared to go back on them, but as of now (fingers crossed) we haven’t had to.
Naomi- I was doing some lamb when I 1st started TED (& was also doing turkey) but don’t really enjoy it that much. I think I will try some more mild type things (oatmeal, then maybe a fruit or veggie) before trying another meat/protein. I don’t want to keep overloading his system since it’s been one failed trial after another.Sheri- thanks for the rec of quinoa. I checked it out @ the grocery store & will definitely keep it in mind.Laura- thanks for the link. I looked @ that when I first started TED (maybe you have it linked elsewhere?). It was very helpful as a guide. I thought about the grapes too but thought that since they are one of the least allergenic foods (http://www.askdrsears.com/html/4/T041800.asp#T041805) it would be ok. I think wine might have some yeast in it. I googled wine ingredients & it seemed like it might. LOL about the vodka – someone @ our dinner party last night mentioned that too.I’ll keep updating. We are going to be in a beach house (only 45min up the road) w/ my family for a week starting this weekend. I’d hoped to be able to eat a bit more for the vacation, but now I just want a happy baby so I’ll continue w/ my potatoes, pears & salad for now.erinntx 2008-08-06 22:03:39 August 6, 2008 at 10:26 pm #55147AnonymousInactiveI can understand your desire to keep the happy baby even if it means more of the same food! But, are there any veggies in your salad that you could enjoy cooked? For example, if he is tolerating carrots in your salad, you could eat them cooked. Also, you could even take some cut like matchsticks and try breading them in potato flour and deep fat frying them as a change of pace. I’m sure you are already also doing all of the variations of potatoes – baked, chips, hash browns, fries, baked fries, etc. Could you somehow include some of your salad veggies in with your potatoes for variety? If you have been able to add onions in your salad, you could pan fry onions and potatos for a western skillet type of dish.
Just some thoughts… Enjoy your week at the beach. I hope that the typical summer weather pattern stays the same as it has been this week instead of the ‘thunderstorms randomly throughout the day’ pattern it was in for the past few weeks.August 20, 2008 at 2:18 pm #55502AnonymousInactiveGosh, I can’t believe I haven’t logged on in almost 2 wks… it feels much longer, but I’m glad to get back.
We were out of town for over a wk, then when we came back we had a couple bday parties, then prepping for Fay (since it looked like it would make landfall right around Sarasota) & then today Brodie’s preschool teachers made a home visit so -phew! Finally some downtime.Well, while we were on vacation I was a bit adventurous re: trying new foods. I figured that since my parents & sister & bil were there also I’d have plenty of help if things turned ugly. Luckily, last week went great – a few things I could tell didn’t work right away, but still no reflux pain (no meds) & fairly normal diapers. Here are the things I tried & the results:-Beef… seems fine w/ it (finally a meat that works).-Oats… ok as long as it’s no more than 1 serving & not past noon (if it’s too close to bedtime he seems congested)-Black beans… ok I think but I only had a small amount-Corn… fine-Wheat… I think it’s a no-go. He’s been very congested @ night after having wheat w/ dinner. Seems ok if I have it w/ lunch or earlier. This week on the other hand has been another story… reflux &/or tummy pain, stinky gas, mucousy diapers, refusing paci, etc. If it is reflux pain it’s fairly mild b/c 0.5mL of Mylanta does the trick & usually only 1x/day. He’s still playing on the floor right after feedings w/o fussing. It’s usually 1-2 hrs after eating he starts fussing so I’m not convinced it’s reflux. Who knows.I guess it could be carry-over from last week but he usually reacts fairly quickly. The only thing I can think is that I had red onions Sunday & Monday night. I’ve been able to eat white onions w/o problems so I didn’t even think about it, but I guess red could be totally diff’t?! Anyone know?Since being home I’ve just been sticking w/ potatoes, pears, squash/zucchini & beef. I think I’ll add in a new fruit or veggie next-something mild & hopefully safe.August 20, 2008 at 7:06 pm #55523AnonymousInactiveErin: Congrats on your improving diet! I am sure you are so excited for each small step. I assume you are keeping a food diary? If so, you might be able to play detective through it as you add new foods – you might see patterns about even the foods you have already added that help you to see if they are true success foods or more “maybe” foods.
I am sure you are equally as pleased that Fay didn’t come up to this area of the state. We were really worried about the track on Monday morning since it looked like it would possibly make landfall at Tampa Bay or just north of it (which would mean severe flooding as water would get pushed into the Bay). On the other hand, I worry that so many people around here are becoming more cynical about preparing for a storm since we have had several false alarms over recent years (including Charley and now Fay). Time will tell…Anyway, congrats on the increasing diet and I hope that he gets better from the fussiness of this week. Might there have been anything else in your food on Sun/Mon other than the red onions??August 25, 2008 at 4:46 pm #55710AnonymousInactiveSorry it took me so long to get back to you Dianne… Yes, I am keeping a food diary but I didn’t while we were on vacation. I took a vacation from documenting too.
The only other thing that I had besides the red onions was some all-beef organic hot dogs. I ate all-beef Oscar Meyer ones all wk while on vacation so I figured the organic would be fine- who knows. I had some pico de gallo over the wkend that had red onions in it & oh my – his reflux definitely flared up from it (he seems okay w/ tomatoes though based on past trials). We had to give Zantac & Mylanta for the few days after but that’s ok-lesson learned. No meds needed today (so far).Yes, we were definitely pleased w/ Fay’s path. We got married during Frances (4yrs ago) & it was a nightmare. The pics outside the church are crazy… palm trees on their sides, etc. So, we don’t take the hurricane things lightly – especially w/ kiddos now. We didn’t even get any rain from Fay though! Crazy. So, I’m back to just pears, potatoes, beef & squash/zucchini – oh, & oatmeal but only for bkfst. I’m going to stay on just this for a few more days (wks even) b/c I’m working on moving Evan to his crib & out of our bed. I don’t want to put new food in the mix obviously during the transisiton.erinntx 2008-08-25 16:46:58 August 26, 2008 at 8:19 am #55727AnonymousInactiveErin: I am glad that you have found a baseline of foods that Evan is OK with so that you can always come back to that point when there is a setback. At least, that baseline will slowly increase – like the fact that now it includes beef!
I certainly understand staying steady on your baseline diet and not trying new foods in order to tackle other issues. It makes the whole process very long and drawn out, but is necessary sometimes (like during your crib transition). We had to put food trials on hold for what seemed like an eternity when Andrew was cutting his two-year molars. They really made him miserable and it made it very hard for us to see if new foods were causing his behaviour/sleep issues or if it was the molars.I hope that Evan takes to his crib nicely and that the transition is quick and painless (for you and him). Keep us posted. -
