Well after being on a strict dairy free diet for a couple of weeks, my son’s reflux had virtually dissapeared. I was doing too much multitasking today and was on autopilot when I poured what was supposed to be almond milk in my cerial. I got through most of the bowl before I noticed it was the real stuff.
So far DS isn’t projectile vomiting or screaming inconsolably like he was before. But he’s doing lots of spitting up, is passing green stool, and is unable to sleep lying down. Now I’m back to sleeping sitting up with him on my chest since it’s the only way he’ll sleep. And he still doesn’t sleep peacefully this way.
How long do you think it will be before he gets back to normal? Is it likely to get worse before it gets better? It’s been about 12 hrs since I conumed the milk. He’s 2 mon old. I was feeling pretty terrible for taking so long to figure out that he had reflux and then wasting another 2 weeks on eating trace dairy instead of cutting it out entirely. The poor little guy was finally at a point where he was happy most of the time and sleeping well. It took so long for us to see his true personality shine through. Now this
June 10, 2010 at 5:36 pm #66451hellbenntKeymasterit can take up to two weeks to get the offending protein out of your system, but it can be sooner!
don’t beat yourself up!
you are the BEST MAMA!!!!June 14, 2010 at 11:15 am #66468AnonymousInactiveIt happens- don’t be too hard on yourself. I know this happened a few days ago & I’m late to post but I just wanted to say that w/ my boys, once they’ve baselined (which your ds was) it only usually takes 2-3 days for the offender to get through my milk, into & out of their system… SO, hopefully as you’re reading this he’s much better. Just a reminder that once his stinky gas is gone, the milk/offender is out of his system so you can see how long it takes (it can take longer for the diapers to regulate though).
Hang in there & again, it happens (& this won’t be the last time either & ds will be fine) 😉

I can’t believe how well he sleeps. These past 2 nights he slept for 7 hrs straight! I actually woke him up to nurse because I was worried. Before the reflux was under control, he never slept longer than 1/2 hr unless I was wearing him during the day.
At least I can say for sure now that dairy was the problem. I just feel so lucky that I only have to give up dairy and not worrie about a TED. Though I’d do it, of course, if needed. I’m not sure about soy yet but I’m avoiding it for now just incase.
I’m so greatful for forums like this! My doctor is completely useless and thought DS was just a fussy baby. Imagine how many babes and their parents lived in misery just 20 yrs ago before google and wonderful boards like this. Without them I wouldn’t have a clue what to do to help my son.
