please allow me to whine a little,. i don’t have anybody who undertsand my fustration and my hubby just think i worried too much.
after two weeks of hoping and trying, kendra has not gained her desire to eat much again. before the g -tube she was making great strides, now we are back to zero, she only drinks water willingly i keep thinking is just b/c of the surgery, but i don’t know any more. Heather (Bryce’smom) was it like that with your little one after surgery? does it really get better? when did it get better? iam just so stressed out. i feel so descorauged when she doesn’t even tried a bite, knowing that she had before.
Thanks for listening. iam done whining now.

I’m so sorry. Those steps backward are SO discouraging. The g-tube surgery didn’t seem to affect Bryce’s willingness to eat, but he didn’t even start with therapy until after the surgery, so he wasn’t doing great to begin with eating wise. How does she react when you try to feed her? Does she push the bottle away right away, or after she has had a little? Sometimes they get an aversion to the actual bottle (not the food) and it helps to try a different nipple. That’s just one idea. Also, could she be teething? Bryce will not allow anything in his mouth when he’s teething. It’s horrible. If we do get some food or milk in his mouth he’ll just pool it there and not swallow. Of course you did say she was taking water okay.
Anyway, I hope you can figure out what’s bothering. I sure know how frustrating it is. Hang in there!

kendra has not taken the bottle since they put the NG tube b/c we figured she had an aversion to it. we are using the nubby trainer zippy cup since then and starting using the honey bear straw. she was making very good progress with these items. she turns her face away when you offer milk or food in the zippy cup, but drinks happillly when you offer her water, so we don’t think is a motor problem at all. i talked to the therapist and we will be seeing an OT to see if it is sensory issue. she could be teething, but i don’t see anyhting visible yet no even a bump. thanks for the reply, i apprecciate it.

Oh, I’m sorry… I think I knew Kendra wasn’t taking a bottle. Have you tried using a different cup to see if it’s an aversion to the cup you’re using? Actually, from the way you describe it, it sounds more like somethings bothering her like teething, sore throat, or even some kind of stomach issue (like she just doesn’t feel like eating food). Going from my experience with Bryce anyway. Also, something we did with Bryce at one point was fed him his milk with a spoon. You might try that at least to figure out if it’s an issue with the food itself or not. Just more ideas!
May 12, 2007 at 8:09 pm #33049AnonymousInactiveMyles would only take milk from a spoon for a very long time. I had never heard of feeding a baby milk from a spoon but when he stubbornly refused the bottle consistently for weeks on end I knew I had to do something and spoon feeding was the answer. He loved breast milk and/or formula from the spoon but balked if I tried to give it to him in a bottle.
Hugs to you and Kendra.
