My 5 week old Matthew has had blood in his stool twice now, the most recent being an hour ago. This time there were probably about 3-4 little streaks, the streaks were a little mucousy and there were a couple of other small streaks of non-bloody mucous too.
He’s 100% fed Nutramigen. Does this mean that he has a really serious milk problem and should be on Neocate? I’ve been considering it anyway, since he’s refluxing quite a bit and stuggles through feeds. He’s a bit of a comfort feeder and putting on tons of weight, which I guess is good. His older brother has a milk intolerance that was dx at 18 months, but never did he have blood in the stool.
At Matthew’s 1mo check up, I told the ped about the 1st incident of blood in the diaper, and she wasn’t too concerned b/c she knew we had an appt scheduled with the GI already (on 1/14) due to the reflux and family history. She did say to let her know if it happened again, so I’m planning to call 1st thing tomorrow morning.
Could this be caused by something other than a milk allergy/intolerance? Is it OK to wait until morning to call the ped, or should I call now??
