Our son has acid reflux and the doc 1st put us on mylanta which just backed him up now they just switched him to Zantac he started taking it yesterday and he has been so restless and not sleeping since taking it. He still sits there and cries and we noticed that his gaging on formula is worse since taking zantac also. Are these usual side affects from zantac? He is 3 weeks old and is on Nutirumigen formula because of a milk allergy that he and his older sister share. He consumes so much formula in a day for example yesterday he took in 38ozs in 24 hours. My husband and I are just exhausted with his constant eating and crying and pooping(normally 10 aday). Thanks for any advice Iam sure I’ll be back for more advice soon

Is the Zantac the commercial preparation? (mint flavour?)

If so try to see if a pharmacy compounded susp will work better for him.

and scroll down to “acid suppressors” You’ll note that the commercial prep ranitidine syrup contains a fair bit of alcohol and is not recommended.

You can try a PPI instead if you think the H2 is not doing the trick for him.
