Hi!
Okay so she’s taking a really good 3hr nap during the day! Her naps where 20min the most! She’s back to waking up at night but eats and gets back to sleep. As far as the pooping issues she’s still struggling to get bowels out. It’s gottta be the neocate. They are completely removing soy from formula so I’m hoping this will help. If not I’ll try maybe puramino. But I’m also currently working with my naturapath to switch up the program a little to see if it helps. She has some gas and reflux flares mostly in the evenings. Neocate states constipation shouldn’t be an issue but I see mom’s in other forums complaining of the same thing on neocate. Go figure. She’s a pretty happy gal during the days. Evenings a little tough but not nearly as before. I will keep updating. Thank for asking Laura 🙂

August 23, 2013 at 12:32 am #72576AnonymousInactiveI am sorry for not replying sooner… for some reason I didn’t see this question before now.
Yes, my children take the digestive enzymes and probiotics daily. Are they dependent on it? I ask myself that question too. And in a way I guess the answer is both yes and no.
First of all, the enzymes they take are plant based. They are not the same as what our pancreas produces although they work the same. The body views them as food so therefore the body can not become dependent on them and make it so the pancreas lessens its enzyme production.
But, obviously, my children can not go without them. If my boys drink a glass of milk and don’t take a pill, they will have stomach pain etc. But as long as they take a pill every time they eat, they are fine and can sleep all night without waking/crying in pain.
If my children didn’t take the probiotics and enzymes then I feel that they would most likely either be on medication or eating a strict diet, if not both. So, having my children having to take probiotics and enzymes daily, seems better to me than meds or strict diet.
My oldest son struggles the most as he suffered the longest. He does a lot of throat clearing and coughing and next week he is having some testing done. I don’t know if he just has seasonal allergies, or reflux, or severe yeast overgrowth, or parasites, or any of the above or maybe just a habit? But I fear it could be due to his throat being damaged for so long before we got to the root of the problem. 🙁
August 23, 2013 at 12:34 am #72577AnonymousInactiveI also want to say though that I know of babies that have taken probiotics and enzymes and then as they get older do not need them anymore. 🙂 I sooner think that my children are in the minority. But they didn’t start taking them until they were ages 2 and 4 years old.
August 23, 2013 at 9:19 pm #72581AnonymousInactiveThank you for replying. Hey we have to do whatever it takes to keep our kids healthy and happy! I was just curious.I hope your oldest does not have reflux again!

September 10, 2013 at 8:28 pm #72610AnonymousInactiveSorry was out of town!
Of course I’ll share it. Her name is Deborah Pena. Her office is in Laotto Indiana. Her email: [email protected]
September 10, 2013 at 8:35 pm #72611AnonymousInactiveOn another note. My poor baby has bee n bad the last 6 days. Every day a lil worse. The gas returned and nasty flares. She refuses to take her enzyme mix and when she does we barely get any in her. She spits it out. It’s really gross! So I kinda stopped given it to her and now she’s bad. No more 3 hr nap during the day. Back to 20-30 min at most. Night time fussiness is bad with terrible gas. Why is it that neocate is not helping her??? Neocate has a new infant formula w out soy. Will that help her? I have ordered it but so scared of trying it bc how will she react to it? I guess it can’t get any worse, right? I’m at a lost. Should I go back to meds? I hate this. I’m sick of it!!! She’s 5 months. When is this going to end ? i just want her pain free.

can you find something to flavor the enzyme mix?she’s 5 months so a little bit of something might do the trick?something all natural – rice syrup maybe?September 12, 2013 at 3:48 pm #72616AnonymousInactiveIf your little one was taking the enzymes earlier but not now, they may have been helping more than you thought.
Awhile ago I read on a reflux site about a desperate mom not wanting to have a feeding tube put into her child. I suggested that she try giving him probiotics and enzymes. You can read her story here http://help4acidreflux.wordpress.com/federicas-story/ but this part I thought you might find interesting…
So a few weeks back Matias (my 2 year old) was doing a lot better, therapy, probiotic, appetite enhancer and ND seemed like a good combo and he was gaining weight (2 lbs in a month!!).
We had an appointment in Hershey Medical (feeding group). I had made so long ago, that even though we really didn’t seem to need it, I still decided to go. I didn’t think it would hurt. The doctor there is amazing and the clinic is ranked best 3 in the country.
While we were there, the Dr. Williams was extremely impressed with Matias. He thought we were way on our way to good feeding times. The only thing I mentioned was that he kept getting diaper rash an complained that his belly hurt once in a while (mostly due to eating more than usual, he is not used to feeling full). As all doctors, he assumed the worst and said that we might need to slow down on introducing all these new things (probiotics, new foods, larger amounts) and said to back track a month and take all new items out. More than anything, he was nervous about allergies or intolerances flaring up and making things bad again
So I thought, no big deal, we are doing so great; eating pizza by himself, barely refusing foods, trying new stuff… Its funny how quickly we forget bad times.
So, I took all the new foods out and the digestive health (don’t ask me why). Three days later, he starts refusing ALL foods, gagging and throwing up again, eating two bites of food and fighting through every meal. I panicked, we couldn’t loose all the weight again, and I am not sure why it is happening.
Then it clicked, its the probiotic, So I started again immediately, and like magic, a week later he is almost back on track. So all my efforts are working but the Digestive Health is the key to the puzzle. I cannot thank you enough for introducing them to us.
If this didn’t happen I would’ve never realized how valuable this product is. And the funny thing is that when I mentioned it to the therapist or his doctors, they do not quite get. I guess like you’ve said before there are so many lousy products out there that nobody believes.
I didn’t paste that here to say that Digestive Health is the only good product because it’s not. But I just wanted you to read what she said happened when she stopped giving them to her child.
I assume that all enzymes taste pretty bad. I have tasted the powder in the Digestive Health pills and while it was tolerable, it certainly wasn’t grand. I find it strange that my children actually LIKE the pills. They happily bite them and chew them up.
I too would suggest that you find something to mix the enzymes with. Like with a couple mls of apple sauce and then give with a dropper like medicine. If she still doesn’t like it you can put it into her cheek then squeeze her cheeks together so she can’t close her mouth. This will make it very difficult for her to spit it out and not a lot of options but to swallow it.
Happy Mom 2013-09-12 15:52:59 September 12, 2013 at 7:38 pm #72621AnonymousInactiveThanka ladies. Yesterday was a better day and night. Today was good also! I’ll try adding some apple juice to the enzymes maybe that will help.I’m also wondering if she’s teething?…
September 18, 2013 at 12:06 pm #72623AnonymousInactiveWould starting solids now help with the gas and constipation?
September 18, 2013 at 12:13 pm #72624AnonymousInactiveHere is an interesting article about it. http://www.babyfooddoctor.com/firstbabyfood.html
Personally I started my children on baby food around 4 1/2 – 5 months. It seemed to make them a little happier as their tummies were fuller. But knowing what I know now, I would probably try to wait off longer.
September 19, 2013 at 6:25 pm #72626hellbenntKeymasterpersonally i think solids add more stress to an already stressed/sensitive (digestive) system – how old is baby?

September 20, 2013 at 10:17 am #72629AnonymousInactiveThanks guys. Shes 21 weeks. I guess I should wait but I know she’s ready because when she sees us eat she totally wants it! I thought maybe pureed prunes could help her lil tummy. I will definitely be making my own food and starting real slow with solids.
