I have been reading this forum for a while but am a new poster. Quick background, my 4 yr old DD had serious reflux issues from birth. Finally figured out at about 4 weeks that she was MSPI…the diet solved our reflux/excema/stool problems.
Fast forward to my DS born in December. Seemed to be okay for the first several weeks, though struggled with gassiness and frequent waking because of it. By six weeks we had mild reflux, nasal congestion, the green mucousy stools and lots of fussines. Did lots of babywearing, eliminated milk and soy and things got better but not great. Eliminated soy oil and lecithin too (he was definitely reacting) along with egg and peanuts at about 2.5 months of age. Everything improved at this point except the funky stools. They were no longer green, but still 100% liquid and either stringy or mucousy. So after trying to fiddle with a food here or there I finally started the TED on June 1st. It has been 2 weeks and we have no improvement. If anything he is spitting up a fair amount MORE than he was. I have done turkey (no additives, but I can’t get the free range stuff here), brown rice, pears, potatoes (white and sweet), squash/zucchini, salt, pepper, olive oil and brown sugar (had to have it!!) I added the Kettle Potato Chips too because I needed a convenience food desperately. I’ve now eliminated the rice (2 days without) and don’t know what my next step should be. I’m drowning my food in oil, eating large quantities and still lost 4 pounds in the past 2 weeks.
Oh, and DS has been eating squash baby food for the past 3 days. What should I eliminate next? I honestly don’t know if I can eliminate another food without starving to death! Or should I substitute chicken or beef for the turkey? I’m willing to try for a couple more weeks but after that I honestly think I’d take the old diet back…same diapers, less spit-up….maybe a tad less sleep too though. I should say that DS is an extremely happy guy…once we got off milk/soy he has no signs of discomfort really. Truly a “happy spitter”! I can’t help but worry that with the continued diaper and spit issues that I am doing some form of harm to his little self that may not be the best for him!
I apologize if my post jumps here and there too much…I’m tired! I would love some input though on what you would do next. Thanks.
