I originally posted this a while back and did not get any responses, so I am going to revise in hopes that someone will have an answer. We have been doing a dairy and soy free diet for 2 weeks. Jackson’s reflux has NOT improved at all. The last 2 days it has been so bad that it almost seems as if he is vomiting. I am not sure if he has a bug or if it is the formula. For the first week or so his reflux had not improved, but it had not gotten worse. The severe, almost vomiting reflux, has only been occurring the last 2 days. My question is- if Jackson had a MSPI, wouldn’t I be seeing SOME improvement after 2 weeks of the trial. I have read on this site that it can take up to 4 weeks. Is that to see ANY improvement. In the mean time, can it actually get worse before it gets better? If someone knows the answer to this, please let me know because I am about to give up on this stinky formula, but I do not want to if it is too early to do so.
Jackson has not ever shown a lot of the “classic” MSPI signs (no constipation, gas, skin problems, etc). I decided to give this thing a shot because of his long lasting reflux and his hyperactivity (which I read could be a sign of a food allergy). Interestingly, Jackson has really mellowed since we began the trial. He will rest his head on our chests when we hold him (he has NOT done this since birth), he will lay on the floor and smile at us, and he just does not seem to be moving throughout his room like a tornado. I am not the only one who has noticed this change. His Daddy, aunts and uncles and grandparents have all commented on the changed behavior.
Please let me know what you think about my trial. Have any of your babies had problems with reflux (similar to vomiting) a couple of weeks after starting Alimentum? Does the trial really take 4 weeks to show ANY improvement? Do you all believe that there is a connection to hyperactivity and MSPI? I would greatly appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

are you using the ready to feed or powder? madelyn developed bloody stools when i ingested corn. while she may have more of the classic signs of mspi, perhaps jackson does not tolerate the corn either. the ready to feed is corn-free.
absolutely, there is a connection b/t hyperactivity and food allergies/intolerances. for years i was involved with a family whose children were out of this world CRAZY in every way. very difficult to handle. it was discovered they were allergic to so many things…preservatives, food dyes, corn products, etc. things that were in most of the foods they were consuming. with the elimination of the allergens from their diets, they were new children. i can not give you a time frame as for how long it took to see a difference. from my own experience, i know that some things clear out of your system quicker than others. i know you probably already know this, sorry
hope things improve! we have just embarked on this very same journey today…alimentum. i’m praying things go well for both of us.

Jackson’s reflux symptoms dramatically improved once I switched him back to milk based formula. Go figure! I am not sure what it was about Alimentum, but he was literally vomiting the stuff and we were spending a ton of money on the ready to feed stuff. I made sure that everything he consumed was dairy and soy free and his symptoms just got worse and worse. We started him on Nestle Good Start Supreme because it only has whey proteins. I am not sure if that is the reason we are seeing a difference or what, but he seems to be on the right track. BTW, if any of your babies are teething, I found some great biter biscuits at the health food store that are dairy and soy free. Even though my son is not on that diet anymore, he likes them so much that I continue to give them. If anyone is interested, I will let you know the name. I am not near them right now and cannot think of it. Healthy times maybe?

here’s hoping madelyn’s very mild reflux stays that way, especially once on this formula. these little people….so complicated

Have you thought about getting JAckson tested for food allergies? It would be helpful, I”m sure, to know what it is that was in the Alimentum that was causing the problems.
