… a little late so really, he is 12months and 3 weeks old now.
He is 80% for height and …. 50% for weight!!! He is 22lbs and 12oz!! We made it. We are back at where we were from when he was a couple of weeks old until 2.5months old, when he got his feeding issues…. so after a long journey, we are back at where they think he needs to be for weight. Head size is a different matter…. still at around 97% but has not grown for a couple of months so the ped says some babies just grow into their heads and he is not concerned because it stopped growing.
He was with us a good 30min and he said he thinks that Matthew’s speech is fine – said not every kid goes through the mama and dada and he says that Matthew sounds like he is about to talk. Said that he repeats ka and la and le sounds and that babies just do something and they repeat and repeat but who knows. Anyway wants us to delay speech therapy until 15months and only if he is not saying 2 words by then.
Matthew also got his MMRV (i had no clue about this new combo) and Hep something… we will see how he reacts to it. NO egg in the vaccine by the way, i know some people were wondering but this one had no egg…. in Nov we will get the flu vaccine and he wants us to do egg a couple of times before then.

August 29, 2006 at 5:41 pm #12591AnonymousInactiveGreat News!! Especially about his weight and his speech. I’m happy to hear the doc is not concerned.
My kids always had big heads (so does dh). Their doctor always says,
“big head, big brain.” I thought she was joking at first but she says a
big head size means a bigger brain, and yes that means smart. DH has a
very high IQ to go along with the big head, so I think it’s true.I’m glad Matthew is doing so well.
August 29, 2006 at 6:08 pm #12597AnonymousInactiveSo good to hear! My oldest had a larger head. I still
remember going to the pediatrician when he was 6 months and my mom was
with me. The doctor was reading his charts and told us he was in
the 95% for head size. My mom made the comment to her that his
head wasn’t that big and the ped’s comment was “it’s generous”!!
My mom was really offended by that!!! But he has grown into it and no longer looks “generous”!!!Hope Matthew continues to do well!
August 29, 2006 at 7:15 pm #12602AnonymousInactiveI am so glad to hear he is doing so well That is great that he is not worried about the speach. I hope things keep going well.
August 29, 2006 at 8:07 pm #12609AnonymousInactiveFantastic!!! So happy for you and Matthew. BTW – my DH had a HUGE head
as a baby – he could barely hold it up and people used to ask his mom if
something was wrong. He grew into it though.
August 29, 2006 at 9:08 pm #12616AnonymousInactiveThat is such great news!! Kayla also had a very large head – almost off the chart but she turned out just fine. You must be so proud of your little sweetie!! He’ll be filling you full of baby knowledge very soon

August 30, 2006 at 7:55 am #12640AnonymousInactiveHey Thais! Great on Matthew’s weight gain and some babbling. Also-just an FYI-Ian’s really tall too-97% at 32 in and has a HUGE head off the charts (same as dh) and we read the same thing about a link to intelligence. Also, there was a recent study at Princeton saying taller babies can mean high smarts too. It was based on some UK studies.
Anything to brag, right?! So happy for you that all went well.
August 30, 2006 at 3:05 pm #12689AnonymousInactiveWow! Matthew is getting soooo big! He weighs 2 lbs more than Isaac did at his 12 month checkup! Isaac just now started to say mama but really doesn’t say much else.
August 30, 2006 at 3:38 pm #12694AnonymousInactiveGreat News! I’m glad to hear the doc’s not worried about his speech. I always worry about that with Bryce too because he has such poor oral skills, but our OT says she’s seen many kids who never suck a bottle, but learn to speak fine. Anyway! Sounds like Matthew’s gaining well too! That’s awesome.
