How is Owen doing these days? Is he still tolerating the soy milk? Seth seems to still be doing well with hidden dairy. I have even been letting him have grilled cheese at school and we have done the Annies’ shells and the drinkable yogurts with success (in limited amounts). He is still refluxing at night but it seems like he does no matter what he eats so we have decided to forge ahead with new things. I have probably jinxed myself now but keep your fingers crossed for us that things continue to go well!
Where are you guys with bottles? Seth still gets one twice a day mainly because he won’t take the Alimentum from a cup. He is getting way too attached to the bedtime bottle though and I am afraid it is going to be hard to drop if we don’t do it soon.
Also, wanted to ask if Owen had started to throw food everywhere? Seth has started to do this at every meal and it is driving me nuts! We do have him in a booster now but he is still such a piggy.

I had a bunch of things to tell you too but I didn’t want to hijack your shrimp post so I’m glad you posted this one. I’m so happy for you that Seth has done well with all of that dairy – that is so great! Owen’s doing great on the soy milk still – keeping our fingers crossed – but it’s been a while now. He gets that first thing, and one or two cups in the day. The only time he gets alimentum is in a bottle at night but we’re thinking about weaning that once school’s out (my husband works in a school so it will be easier when he’s off for the summer). I like him getting it for the vitamins, etc. but also would like for him to not have any bottles any more too. It’s the same thing about the bedtime bottle – tonight I just mentioned it and he went CRAZY until we got it for him. I thought it would help if I brought him upstairs to get him in his pjs but he wouldn’t let me dress him and just screamed and kicked and fought until his dad came up with the bottle. It was nuts – and made me think he’s getting too dependant on it at this point.
We did drop one of his prevacid doses, although we haven’t told anyone about it until right now! We dropped it on Saturday, by mistake actually. We were out doing errands when I realized I had forgotten to give it to him in the morning and my husband said “well let’s just not give it to him” – so we didn’t. We’ve still been giving him his evening dose but nothing in the morning so I guess this is the 4th day of his not getting it in the AM. That means he’s down to about 7.5 mg a day, so I don’t know if that even does anything for him. We totally weren’t planning on doing it but figured why not! I’ll let you know how that goes.
He’s having soy yogurt now without a problem too, so that’s a very good thing. I think we’ll probably try dairy in a month or so, if this medicine thing works ok.
Owen actually hasn’t been throwing food (and he’s in a booster too) but he has been chewing it up and then spitting it out on the floor up to an hour after a meal – now that’s gross! He did it at the bank the other day – half a granola bar spit onto the floor. It totally looked like he had thrown up on the rug and I bet anyone who saw it thought he did, but it isn’t – he just spits. It is the grossest thing ever and I don’t know how to stop it. When he does it at home I make him clean it up and he hates it – and of course he does since it’s gross!! So I have to say that I would take throwing food over this new habit of his.
So is Seth still waking up a lot in the night? Does he seem really uncomfortable? I’m sorry for you that he’s still doing that – you guys must be exhausted!!
May 30, 2006 at 11:16 pm #8824AnonymousInactiveLaura, that is great Owen is still doing well with the soy and is also encouraging news about the Prevacid! I agree 7.5 mg would not seem very effective for him so maybe he is ready to be weaned. I will keep my fingers crossed he continues to do well with the one dose. Please keep me updated how it goes.
I have to say, that yes it is gross about him spitting out the food but you literally had me laughing out loud picturing it! I even ran in to tell Dh. I guess sweeping up food a million times a day is better than dealing with that. Hopefully, it is a phase!!!
I don’t know what to do about the bedtime bottle. Have you thought about what you are going to offer in its place if anything? Seth gets all psyched up seeing me make it too and will even ask for more sometimes and then keeps sucking on it long after it is empty like he is starved to death. He is killing me! It really is time for it to go but I feel like I am stuck until he can tolerate milk (I am going to trial at 18 months).
Seth still wakes almost every night but settles down fairly quickly with Mylanta. It is tiring and he is pretty much sleeping with one of us in the guest bed after he wakes but it is the only way any of us get any rest!

May 31, 2006 at 9:39 am #8839AnonymousInactiveWell, I did jinx myself big time- Seth threw up all of his breakfast in the car this morning. I had given him the drinkable yogurts instead of the bottle the past two mornings and I guess it was too much for him because he seems fine otherwise. Such a disappointment but not the end of the world I guess.
May 31, 2006 at 10:11 am #8847AnonymousInactiveOh no! That’s too bad Tiffany, I’m sorry. Could it just be because it was a lot at once though, maybe? We’ve had to go so slowly with introducing stuff to Owen and if he has too much, forget it. Maybe that’s all it is? I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!
