Seems we’ve finally had a breakthrough with DD’s chronic
constipation!!! New ped had us up her soilds with more fruits and
veggies and also start her on 3-4 ounces/day of fiber juice
(www.fiberjuice.com) – we got the apple which is just regular apple
juice with a lot of added fiber. I use some to make her oatmeal and
give the rest in sippy throughout the day. Three days in a row now
(only like 5 days after starting it) she’s had great normal soft mushy
poops. Yahoo!May 24, 2006 at 9:28 pm #8586AnonymousInactiveGreat news Karen!!! I’ll have to look into that as well!!
May 24, 2006 at 9:46 pm #8592AnonymousInactiveWow, great news… too bad we cannot give Matthew any fuids other than formula right now
May 24, 2006 at 9:50 pm #8593AnonymousInactiveLori – if Hailey will drink juice it definitely may help – we can’t
believe the difference it has made here and just hope it continues –
three days now of nice easy mushy poops (stinky too LOL). They have
apple, grape, orange…Not even water, Thais?
May 24, 2006 at 10:33 pm #8595AnonymousInactiveThais, did I miss a thread? Why can Matthew only have formula?
Karen, I’m going to check out the website. Doubt we have it in Canada though. Interestingly, since switching from losec to prevacid she doesn’t poop rocks anymore.
May 25, 2006 at 6:51 am #8598AnonymousInactiveIt can only be ordered from online or over phone – and i do think they
ship to Canada. But great news with the med switch effect!May 25, 2006 at 8:05 am #8599AnonymousInactiveSorry – only formula because everything else has very few calories! We are now doing a max olume of 1000cc per day because they do not think that he can handle more… and all that has to be high calorie ie 30cal formula (or 28 i think i am doing) and a few solids. There is no calories in water and very little in juice! So they don’t allow us any right now
May 25, 2006 at 8:49 am #8603AnonymousInactiveHow is the Mylanta working for his constipation?
May 25, 2006 at 9:26 am #8606AnonymousInactiveMyanta is doing nothing… i have to call teh clinic today to check with them…see hat they say
May 25, 2006 at 9:39 am #8607AnonymousInactiveMylanta honestly never helped our poop issues here either. MoM helped a
little more, Miralax more than that but this juice the best and most
regular. But MoM and Miralax both worked pretty well too and MoM quite
natural. Let us know what they say. You see GI doctor re tube in a few
days too, right?May 25, 2006 at 10:11 am #8613AnonymousInactiveYippee-good to know on the juice! I’m going to check it out as well as Ian’s poops get much harder on banana (It’s water poops or hard lumps for this baby). Also, since he’s into working with a sippy cup-it may be better for his skin then pedialyte.
Thais-Mylanta didn’t work for us either. Dr. Moon told us to use 1/2 tsp of MoM every day and it works really well. Like Karen, she also said it’s quite natural and many infants have to use it because they don’t get much fiber. She’s VERY conservative on meds, so I felt comfortable with it. BTW-didn’t you say you’ve switched to just one food(puree) right now? Which are you giving?

May 25, 2006 at 10:23 am #8614AnonymousInactiveGood news on Ian eating!
We will check with the clinic later today – matthew has mushy poops and at least 2 a day… he just pushes really hard for them… so not sure that MoM is the answer… it is kind of hard on his stomach… we shall see!
well matthew now only likes home made food… will not take anything from jars (although i do use carrots from jars to make his food). He takes meat with potatoes, carrots adn peas or the same with chicken or chicken with jams. It really takes 30min to make the food… so i don’t mind making it everyday…. if we control his throwing up and manage not to throw up for 7 days, we will go ahead and try to make some pasta with veggies (puree obviously still). I have a feeling he will like it!
May 25, 2006 at 10:32 am #8615AnonymousInactiveAh, mushy poops already. Well the only things that helped keep Marisa
from having to push too hard were the Miralax and now the juice…Curious to see what the clinic says to do.That’s funny since M prefers the jars but jarred meats gross me out. We
are trying chicken today and I made chicken soup over the weekend and
pureed some for her (chicken and carrot) and froze it and now am mixing
some into her jarred sweet potatoes to see if she’ll eat it for lunch.
If not maybe I’ll add some apples?May 25, 2006 at 11:55 am #8617AnonymousInactiveYes, mushy poops? Humm..poor thing. Not really sure what the solution for help with pushing. Maybe just a tiny bit of MoM so not to irritate belly? Hopefully clinic will call you back soon-they’re wonderful but we had a really tough time getting them to return calls. Don’t be afraid to call a few times as I was way polite in the beginning until weeks went by. Let us know what they say.
We use jarred sweet potato and squash because there is no additives (and for convienence because we go to my office 2 days a week) and puree bananas with formula. We’re going to try pears next but I’m going to make my own and see if he likes it. I agree with you Karen-the jarred meats are just nasty! We tried Lamb before per feeding clinic’s suggestion and Ian projectile vomited and gagged. We’ll have to make our own. Thais any tips? Do you freeze and defrost or make individually?

May 25, 2006 at 12:04 pm #8619AnonymousInactiveMyles has this problem of having to push real hard when he goes, even though his stools are soft. I’m sure it’s because he has slow motility.
I never thought this would work but my mil suggested trying prunes and I did. Only a tiny bit (1 – 2 teaspoons per day) and surprisingly he doesn’t strain anymore when he goes. I really can’t figure out how prunes would help with slow motility, but they seem to be helping Myles.
I don’t know if your little ones can tolerate prunes but I thought I’d meniton it since it does seem to be helping Myles.
