Hi everyone,
I have a 2 month old with reflux and apnea . Looking forward to learning more and getting her the proper treatment she needs.June 17, 2013 at 9:48 am #72337hellbenntKeymasterwelcome! so glad you found us & made it! phew
there’s a LOT of info here to help you!
MY BABY HAD APNEA!!!!
please, go to the different forums, for example the Medicine Forum (this is just an example! please surf around!)
and look for
‘stickied’ posts. This means a post that is ‘kept’ at the top of the forum, so when you go to the Medicines Forum and look at the top few posts, you will see there are important, ‘stickied’ posts at the top, for example: PREVACID 101
(from there, look for a link there, look for underlined words “Marci Kids Dosing Chart’)
Read/skim through the stickied posts – they will help explain a LOT
ANOTHER IMPORTANT STICKY is in the INTRODUCE YOURSELF FORUM,
it’s GROUPIE INTRO
this is IMPORTANT! Heck, it’s all important !

Apnea is freaking scary! She was recently hospitalized because of it. She had an apnea episode at the dr’s office. Hoping like crazy that this reflux is short lived and I can stop worrying so much about her.June 18, 2013 at 10:29 am #72340hellbenntKeymasterthe trick for our baby was PROPER dosing and PROPER adiministration of PPIs
he was on zantac, TOO, for quite some time; his reflux/apnea was that bad@
he was on an apnea monitor, that thing is LOUD!

June 21, 2013 at 10:44 am #72418AnonymousInactiveMy baby is back in the hospital. I called a dr recommended off of this board, Dr Kirschner. Luck was on my side and I called on Wednesday and got an appt for the following day. On Wednesday after I called and made her appt she had another reflux episode. I don’t know if she had an apnea episode because I didn’t see it start but when I heard her she already had formula running out of her nose and was aging trouble breathing. She was trying to catch her breath but the reflux kept coming up forcefully. It looked like she was dry heaving. Again it was horrible and scary. So GI doc recommended that she be admitted, esophogram, head ultrasound, possible ph probe and apnea monitor. Now that we are in the hospital thy are thinking swallow study and possible head MRI.
I’m exhausted! I refuse to go home without an apnea monitor. She was sleeping when she had the episode on Wednesday and that was part of my worst nightmare. Thank g-d it wasn’t at night while my husband and I were sleeping. I do not want her to die or have any complications from chokingand lack of oxygen.
Hope we get a solution soon.
June 21, 2013 at 10:52 am #72419hellbenntKeymasterHUGS!!!!!
please keep us updated and I hope this doctor is GREAT!!
For my son, it was HIGH doses of PPI that finally helped!
are you breastfeeding or formula?
how about a SWALLOW STUDY, while she’s in there? you can check for aspiration (some getting into the lungs when eating/swallowing)
and check stool for (invisible) blood
(why not? she’s there…)
HANG IN THERE!!
HUGS!!
