my 10 week old baby started Prevacid a week and a half ago for possible reflux. It took about a week and I noticed he seemed to sleep a little longer at night, a 4 hr stretch a couple of nights – a record!
BUT, the last 2 nights, he’s not sleeping. He won’t fall back to sleep like before. He lays there and grunts, wiggles, and fusses. Falls asleep for a few minutes then does it again, for over an hour.
I started him Biogaia a week ago too. I’ve noticed he doesn’t vomit or spit up as much but he still arches his backs, cries uncontrollably, and acts like he’s in pain.
He’s also started a new thing, he seems very hungry in the mornings, will eat every hour from about 7am – 12. But he’s started to pull away after a full feeding, try to relatch, get frustrated and pull away again, and on and on. Crying as if he’s hungry but can’t get anything, because my boob is deflated.
He won’t take a pacifier, he just spits it out and acts like he is confused with the baby, maybe?
I also started Ovol (simethicone) a few days ago thinking its’ increased gas. Don’t notice anything different. I give it after each feeding. 25 ml.
Also the Prevacid is 15 mg. I was giving it once in the morning but just yesterday started twice per day, splitting the dose in half.
The doctor has no idea and isn’t familiar with Prevacid, so hoping to get the referrral soon to a specialist. I’m trying to figure it out myself and hoping I’m not making it worse.
Wondering if these new symptoms of acting agitated in the middle of the night are from Prevacid, causing increased gas, or constipation. He doesn’t pass that much gas. I bicycle his legs, elevate his bed, keep him upright, burp him, etc etc.
I’ve cut out dairy for about a week now, and tried 3 kinds of gripe water, nothing. Also saw a chiro a couple of times and have an appt tomorrow.
He naps a couple of times during the day, about 2 hrs. Overnight, he is eating every 2-3 hrs. Breastfeeding btw.
Any ideas?????
February 11, 2013 at 1:40 pm #71646AnonymousInactiveme again..Not sure where is best to post this. sorry if its out of place.
forgot to mention that he usually poops every time I change him, which is after every feeding, about every 3 hrs. Usually yellowy and runny.
A few times lately it’s been very green.
Last night, for the first time overnight, he didn’t poo when I changed him. Just peed.
I make sure he stays on the breast until its empty, so I know hes getting hind milk.
February 11, 2013 at 6:38 pm #71648hellbenntKeymasterwhat form of prevacid? I bet it’s a compound made by the pharmacy, and, if it is, it’s lost it’s effectiveness?
have you read Prevacid 101? it’ll help you undertand all of this…
scroll to the last page of this post, (it’s actually also about other PPIs like prilosec, too)
