I would really appreciate your wisdom.
My son is 4 months old. We’ve been having issues since the get-go. I was expecting issues because my twins had reflux and “colic”. He has been on zantac for a couple months. I cut out major dairy when he was about 2 weeks old, followed by all dairy maybe 3 months ago. Then no wheat abou 2 months ago. Then I finally started reading about MSPI and eliminated soy. I had his stool tested and it was positive for blood. I’ve been reading labels really closely for 4 weeks and avoiding wheat, milk, and soy. After about a week, things started to really improve. Then we had several days of yellow stools and he was feeling better for sure. This was a couple weeks ago. Since then, no diapers have looked truly normal…most have been slimy, brownish orange and some green. I saw a streak of blood last week. Still, this is a VAST improvement from a month ago. He is a lot happier, definitely feeling better. But as of this morning stool still tested positive for blood.
My ped said I could see a gastrointerologist….but we already have a ton of bills and from what I hear I don’t feel convinced that would help.
Is TED the way to go?
September 5, 2012 at 3:23 pm #70908AnonymousInactiveGood for you that you are so dedicated to avoiding the foods that bother your baby! That is a huge sacrifice! It’s amazing what us mamas will do for our children. π
I wouldn’t count on the gastrointerologist being of much help either. π
y first child had blood in his stools also. Please take the time to read my blog (see signature) and I believe that you will find some helpful info on there. π
Feel free to ask any questions you would have.

I think in the end though, the best thing is to get as educated as possible, and then make your own decisions about his care. this site is great for info and mama insight. I have only found relief for the kids GERD with the PPI drugs (prevacid or prilosec) They actually stop the acid production in the stomach. Are there traces of black/brown in the poop that meant he blood is coming from higher up in the GI tract (prob his esophagus from being irritated) or is it actual red fresh blood, meaning it’s coming from somewhere lower down? DS also has blood in his stool right now and spit up, so I am on a full elimination diet. no eggs, wheat, dairy, soy, fish or nuts. phew! cause yes, blood in stool can be a sign of allergies. I have found it easier with my kids to do a full on elimination diet, get it over with in one shot. If you would have to pay for a GI (insurance?) then I would ARM yourself with info, so that you could go in with more or less of an idea of what you would want to do, to make the visit worth while, but I think personally it would be worth trying. good luck!
September 6, 2012 at 5:05 pm #70920hellbenntKeymasterI’d say to do the TED because I did it…

Xposting my update from the other thread:
Thanks Laura, sorry I haven’t posted.Well, I planned to do
TED but copped out after one morning of no coffee. I felt like I had the
flu and I decided I just couldn’t cope at that moment. So I set up an
appointment with an alternative health place…they do LAET among other
things (I’m sure most people think LAET is crazy but my family has had
good results from this practice). Anyway, she suggested I go grain-free
and egg-free and gave me a probiotic. She recommended mixing a little
water with it and inserting rectally with a tiny little syringe
(lubricated with coconut oil). That way the probiotic goes right to
where it is most needed. So I have been doing that for the last 10 days
and haven’t really seen an improvement. He actually had some tiny specks
of visible blood today. But he is having such frequent bowel movements
that I can’t imagine how any irritations would heal anyway. I went ahead
and asked for a referral to the gastrointerologist but I’m kind of torn
about whether it’s necessary. I would like to go back to the natural
place but it is out of town. I was heading there on Friday and my van
broke down. Meanwhile I am really hungry so I’m considering adding
something back in.September 26, 2012 at 6:17 pm #70996hellbenntKeymasternext you could try no milk protein and no dairy protein- or, you could just do the TED…
how are poops now that you’re ‘free’ of grains & eggs?any difference?September 26, 2012 at 9:27 pm #70997AnonymousInactiveI have still been dairy free and have completely avoided all the milk and dairy ingredients….is that what you mean by protein? I am pretty much only eating veggies, fruits, meat, nuts, potatoes, EVOO and salt and pepper and only what I cook myself at home so no chance of accidents.
His poop seems to go through a cycle every time I change my diet. It goes from really green and slimy to sort of brown and slimy to sometimes a glimpse of normal yellow seedy. But it always seems to go back to green and slimy no matter what. Today we had yellow so I’m always optimistic but it seems to cycle back no matter what.
