DD is 5 months. Laura, I did the restricted restricted diet (no rice). Went to ped GI. No blood in stool.
She suggested:maybe the baby isn’t getting enough nutrition. Ped thinks she’s hungry. She is a very healthy weight and looks great. I should eat regular foods except dairy, soy and nuts. She bumped prevacid to 15×2/day.Had hamburger, chardonnay and 3 starbursts on way home. Awful, awful, hideous next day. Back on restricted diet. Sat and Sunday were good, thought we were back on track. That was 6 days ago. Baby has had 2 good days followed by really no rhyme or reason for fussiness/frequent eating, green poop.If this child would take a bottle (still no luck) I’d try whatever. She won’t. I’m coping but the getting up 6 times a night (and she only sleeps 9-6 or so) is wearing on me more than I’d like to admit. My house is a pit. All I can do is survive.thoughts? Picking up colic book at library today.thanks mamas. Hugs to all in the same situation.August 29, 2012 at 9:59 pm #70873AnonymousInactive*sigh* the best I can offer is what I’m going through with DS. I have found the diet to be helpful, I now know that he is MSPI, but also coffee and alcohol are big no-no’s. perhaps it was the chardonnay? I am about to try eliminating things like garlic, onions, peppers, etc just to see, but I feel like there IS no rhyme or reason sometimes. We are currently on 60mg/day of prevacid which I feel like is CRAY high, and we still struggle plenty. DS also wont take a bottle, which now having my second GERD baby, I realize is that breastfeeding these guys isn’t just about food, it’s about comfort. You are there everything right now, and it’s completely and utterly exhausting. Would you consider co-sleeping? This is the only thing saving me right now, is that he nurses off and on all night, both of us sleeping through most if it. This is just my two scents, take it or leave it, but I think colic is a crock. The whole concept erks me. These babies are in pain, plain and simple, and you’re right, it’s all about survival right now. Forget the house, it’ll be a bit for a while. I also have a 2 yr old right now, you don’t even wanna see what my place looks like, lol. Hang in there mama, we’re here for you and it’s nice to know you’re not alone. keep me posted! good luck!

September 7, 2012 at 11:38 am #70924AnonymousInactiveUpdate: saw pediatrician for a cold, she suggested an IGE test. Results were ‘no allergies’.
I’m confounded. Would it be accurate to say many of these milk/soy/protein babies don’t have ‘allergies’ but more accurately ‘intolerances’? So they wouldn’t show up?What to add? My mother-in-law came from out of state to help us for a few days. She ended up saying on the last day “well, I think she is constipated from all that prevacid. I don’t really believe in reflux, they say I have it, I don’t even believe it exists. “Wow. Still reeling. Baby girl is doing ok and it was nice to have an extra set of hands for a few days but that statement was like a punch in the stomach. She was a nurse back in the day and seems very medically savvy (20 grandkids, 9 children). Blarg.Still adding foods to some degree of success.September 7, 2012 at 7:03 pm #70926AnonymousInactiveI’m sorry about what your mom said. My mom used to be a nurse too, had 11 children, and 26 grandchildren, and I often felt like she really didn’t understand what I was going through with my children. 🙁 I can feel for you!
It seems strange to my mom that her children just didn’t have all these problems that her grandchildren have. My belief is that when we were young we ate a lot more fresh foods that still had the enzymes in them to aid in breaking down the food. Also we drank milk straight from our cow. The milk you buy in stores (and formulas) has been cooked or processed so therefore the enzymes are all killed and it makes it hard for the system to break this down without enzymes.
This is a link to an article that is written by a doctor. She is speaking about the link between digestive problems and autism but there is a lot of really good information about why children today are suffering more from digestive problems than they used to. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/07/31/dr-natasha-campbell-mcbride-on-gaps-nutritional-program.aspx
Often times these “food intolerances” in children aren’t true allergies and therefore rarely show up on an allergy test. I personally now call them “the inability to break down their foods properly” rather than having intolerances to food. Proteins are one of the hardest things for the digestive system to break down so often this is why babies and children are diagnosed with a protein intolerance. Happy Mom2012-09-07 19:05:40
