Hello to everyone. Our baby boy hunter was born at 26 weeks and is currently 3 months old 6 pounds 7 ounces. His pediatrician has prescribed him the prevacid compound at 3mg/ml on 2.5 ML once per day. He has been on this for about 10 days now and at first it seemed to do wonders. The other night I started to notice symptoms again however and last night it was back full force. From what I have read on other threads the compound becomes unstable after 2 weeks, and the dosage needs to be weight adjusted correct? I tried to call his pediatrician today to see if we could up his dose BUT she is out of town for TWO WEEKS. I called the pharmacy to see if we could get a refill of the compound just incase it has lost its effectivness but they won’t refill it because its a one month supply. Hunter has HORRIBLE reflux to the point that the acid sometimes gets caught in his throat and he will stop breathing for long periods of time and his entire face turns blue/purple (this started again last night =/). I am scared to death now and I didn’t sleep at all last night. I am wondering what I should do? I did give him an extra .6ML dose late last night and he did finally get some sleep which seems to confirm my suspicion that it needs increased. If I increase on my own though he will run out of the compound before his refill AND before his pediatrician is back. Can I buy OTC prevacid and give it to him? Is it possible to give such a small baby too much prevacid? I would GREATLY appeciate any help anyone can give me.
