Yup, it’s a nightmare! We have a refluxer again… I am ready to cry. She wasn’t eatting well at all from the get go, she just wouldn’t suck at all taking in about 1-1 1/2oz with a lot of effort. Well, last night the crying with feedings started and vomiting. She wouldn’t drink anything at all. Crying and arching and gassy, hard to burp. So today we saw the Peds MD she started us on Prevacid packets 7.5 mg once a day. Hopefully that helps. I also made an appt to see the GI on May 10th just for and evaulation incase Taylor’s case is worse than Alexis’, God I hope not. Anyways, to add to the mayhem, Alexis has strep throat, and she doesn’t even have tonsils anymore! DH goes back to work tomorrow, I’m going to need heavy duty antidepressants! How did you give Prevacid granules to such a little baby? Alexis was on compounded Prilosec as a baby so I’m not sure how it works with the the little beads for such a little baby to take. Please help! Once again very desperate for all the help possible!

I am so sorry to hear about another refluxer. I cannot begin to imagine how you are feeling. Hopefully the second time around you will have a lot more experience and you will know how to handle it a bit better… and then we are all here for you.
April 27, 2006 at 7:19 pm #7026AnonymousInactiveOh Sue – I’m sorry to hear that Taylor is a refluxer but so glad you
are on top of things and have her on Prevacid already. Not sure how the
granules would work with such a small baby – can they do a compound
instead? I also hope Alexis feels better soon.April 27, 2006 at 7:25 pm #7028AnonymousInactivesue- the boys were started on packets at 10 wks. it was difficult to get all of the beads into them, but once we got the hang of it, it became easier. we would split a packet, eyeballing an even amount of beads into a small bowl and add a small amount of water to mix. then with a wide mouth syringe we would try to suck up as many beads as we could. the boys never gave us a problem in sucking the beads out, the problem would be that the beads would get stuck in the syringe. we would just suck up more water which seemed to loosen them up and make them come out easier. i hope that makes some sense. i am so sorry that taylor has reflux too. and poor alexis! you have alot going on. hang in there. sending good thoughts your way!
April 27, 2006 at 7:43 pm #7030AnonymousInactiveI’m so sorry that Taylor has reflux. I’ve been through it twice, too. So, I know how you feel. You’re probably thinking, How am I going to do this again? Right now you’re post partum hormones aren’t helping very much either. Believe me, I remember. It’s so hard when all you want to do is cry. I also had incredible post partum anxiety. Panic level anxiety. I was nursing so I couldn’t take anything. I don’t know how I survived, but I did. This site helped alot. It’s really the only support I had.
Like Thais said, you know more this time and that should help some. Also, I always reminded myself that Ellie (my first refluxer) outgrew it…how fast the time goes…one day this will be behind you.
That’s great that you are going to see a GI. I hope he is very knowledgeable and helpful.
Giving the Prevacid more than once per day might help. Once a day was not enough for my little guy. He gets it three times per day, and that has helped alot. Was once a day enough for Alexis?
Well, sorry I don’t have more advice. Just wanted you to know you’re not the only one who has to endure this more than once. Hang in there. I hope this time around is easier for you and that Taylor responds well to the Prevacid.
April 27, 2006 at 7:57 pm #7033hellbenntKeymasterWOW. First of all CONGRATULATIONS!!!
ok, now to my practical help, lol! (as I try not to think about how your post will be mine, come July)
I would investigate zegerid http://www.zegerid.com/ , and at the same time,
I’d look into CARACREAM!! It IS possible to get it…you have to find a pharmacy that compounds and uses the company FlavorX for flavorings…then you can get caracream To find out how you MIGHT be able to get caracream (or chocobase), click here: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=5244 & look for the post just after my purple one!
what about tummy sleeping for naps- I mean for times when you can actually KEEP AN EYE on him, as he’s tiny! put a beanie baby on his back so you can see it going up & down…
also, if you hold him certain ways is the gas better? of course I’m going to suggest ‘babywearing’, as it SAVED us at the point where you seem to be now…
hang in there!
April 27, 2006 at 9:06 pm #7049AnonymousInactiveSue, I’m so sorry to hear that Taylor is having reflux, but it’s great that you’re on top of things so early… it can only help. I really hope that the prevacid helps and things calm down for you soon. Good luck. We’re all here for you.
April 27, 2006 at 9:10 pm #7052AnonymousInactiveCongratulations! At least this time you are able to recognize the symptoms and have relationships with docs already. We had the prevacid compounded at that age. It also helped to slip a finger in her mouth to get her sucking then place the dropper in her mouth so she can suck the medicine out. Hope the gassiness doesn’t mean she is mspi. I know you have done this before, but at 8 weeks old, we placed dd on her stomach in a sling/wedge combo, and she finally got comfortable enough to sleep. You can handle this, you have so much knowledge from going through this before!
April 27, 2006 at 9:12 pm #7054AnonymousInactiveThings right now are pretty bad. She is refusing to suck on any bottles. I spoke to the Peds MD if we can’t get enough formula in her and she starts to look bad, it is back to the hospital for more work up and admission! I’m so horrified for my little one!
April 27, 2006 at 10:02 pm #7058AnonymousInactiveCould you try asking for the solutabs?? they are super easy to give, granules are MUCH MUCH smaller..they put my son on the packets at 2 months, and they were awful, it was impossible to give them to him, he kept gagging on them…my insurance won’t cover the solutabs but I asked for them anyway and pay for them out of pocket..expensive but worth it. (and congrats on your new little one, I love the name taylor!)
