My baby is 12 weeks old. I think that he has silent reflux. We have tries him on gaviscon and carobel. The carobel gave him awful wind and the gaviscon constipated him and made no difference to reflux.
He is now on 4mg of Omeprazole (in suspension form) a day. I haven’t seen an improvement and he has been on it for 5 weeks.
I am starting to wonder if it is even reflux that he has.
He feeds every 3 hours, was previously taking 6 or 7 oz a feed, now takes 4 at the most.
During feeds he arches his back and pulls on the teat of bottle as if pulling away but won’t let go of bottle. He rarely throws up however yesterday he did throw up 2 whole bottles.
Night time is worse, I feed him at 8pm (4oz) along with giving him his dose of Omeprazole then he sleeps til 11pm then another 3 or 4 oz then asleep til about 2am. I will fees him again about 4oz but he cannot settle back to sleep. I swaddle him and have cot raised at angle. He doesn’t cry in pain but seems generally uncomfortable and tosses and turns for hours.
I just don’t know if it is reflux or am I totally wrong? I keep
Him upright for about half hour after feeds night and day.
I just am desperate for sleep at night as my day is starting at 2 am!
Please help!

It does, however, sound like reflux that, in my humble opinion/educated guess, is as if it’s untreated? meaning that perhaps the medications are not as high as they could be, nor are they in the proper form?
I have a LOT to say…most of it is found in Groupie Introand also Prevacid 101 (look also for the link called marci-kids dosing chart)Prevacid 101:

Your description of him tossing and turning for hours really struck home with me, it sounds just like my LO did. He was so uncomfortable all the time, grunting, squirming, and terribly gassy. He would also randomly cry and scream in his sleep. Maybe you should try a hydrolysate formula like Nutramigen or Alimentum. They are milk based but they are made up of partially broken down protein chains making it easier for babies to digest. It’s worth a try! Hang in there 🙂
