We have been MIA for awhile because we thought our LO out grew reflux, but now we are not sure he has. He was on Zegerid until March 11….had a scope in June, along with Upper GI xrays, barium swallow and gastric emtying while in the hospital for dehydration and FTT. All were negative for anything. He had an NG tube for a few days and was sent home on a high dose of pediasure. After a month he wouldn’t touch it, he had a rash and we found out he was super sensative to it. We were able to put a few pounds on him. In june he was 19.5 now at 27 months 24. So anyway….. he is still having a ton of hiccups…he had them since birth, every 2 weeks …they happen for two days on and off (this happened even on the highest doses of Zegerid) they clearly effect him….loss of appetite…sleep, irritable etc. The effects can last for days. GI has never thought much about it. So were were evaluated by genetics and neuro, nothing there. So now they are throwing us back to GI and they are getting worse. He has been having them weekly for 2 months and he is not himself at all. He has also not wanted to nap much by himself nad wakes up crying sometimes…also has developed a cough the last week, no other symptoms and has never even had a cough before. Nero suggested an US of the diaphragm, and stomach, and immunology (he has low IGG) suggested a PH probe.
So we go back to GI wed, he set up for the probe on Thursday.Does this all sound like a good course of action at this point? Anything else I should ask them to look for or look at? Any advice on the PH probe? I was hoping we would be in patient over night for it, but it’s out patient. I am also thinking if GI wants to do another scope that maybe they should place the probe then. UGH..I am to that point of lets admit him and get it ALL done in a couple of days. After 1.5 years of being tossed around and test after test….lets test and wait forever for the results…I just want to see whats wrong. these hiccups are clearly our problem. Poor guys has only had a few “regular” meals, and the rest of the time he just grazes……arg….sorry to vent, I am just pissed at this point.
January 16, 2012 at 7:27 pm #69713AnonymousInactivesounds like a good course of action to me—but i would also have them check the liver—i think hiccups can be connected to a problem there—don’t worry, it’s probably not likely, but aslong as they are checking…….
January 17, 2012 at 1:39 pm #69717AnonymousInactiveThank you for the suggestion. I will ask about it and see if the abdominal US will look at the liver and see about getting his liver enzymes checked. I think they have always been normal but it wont hurt to take a look at it.
January 18, 2012 at 3:44 pm #69723AnonymousInactivewent to GI today. We are doing the ph probe tomorrow. They are setting up the abdominal US and talking the neurology. My GI has never seen hiccups and growth issues before. if this stuff doesnt yield any results we are going to have the NG tube feed talk. 🙁
