Background: DS is almost 6 months, 20ish pounds (comfort nurser at first), no reflux med (tried and failed but seems better). I dropped soy and dairy when he was 6 weeks, all nuts when he was 3 months, and then top 8 and corn, citrus, berries, seeds, cinnamon free when he was 4 months old.
His poops got somewhat better when I went top 8+ free but there’d still be flare ups with mucous. The doctor was unconcerned with a green mucousy poop he had at his 4 month check up. He pretty much stopped screaming at the breast once I did top8+ free too.
Are these symptoms:
-dry skin/flakes around his eyebrows/bridge of his nose
-frequent poops (like 3-4 a day)
-dark green spots in the diaper (like the size of a booger)So a week into TED and his stools are a dark rusty orange color, hardly any seeds (they were starting to get some seeds before I started TED, the TED almost seemed to make it worse slightly) and today I saw a string of mucous. And the poop still smells bad.
Questions:
-Can I do rice milk and rice Krispies (gluten free) I haven’t been doing the rice milk because there are other things in it, but I could use the calcium (but I’d really only want the milk if I had cereal to put it in)
-With him almost 6 months, when can I add solids. I’ve heard once they get a baseline, but what if he doesn’t anytime soon?
-Night wakings: how do I know if they are from pain/gas/food vs. just poor sleeping skills? He wake often at night (nurses two times) most often it’s just a cry out or fussing and we pop the pacifier in and he goes back to sleep (or is quiet for 10-15 minutes until he cries out again). If he was in pain from reflux or food intolerance, wouldn’t he cry out and not be comforted so easily? We want to sleep train but I can’t do that if I think he may be in pain. Thanks so much. This whole thing sucks and I can’t even imagine those of you that have done the TED for so long! I really hope I can figure out what is bothering him soon!
Should I be keeping a food journal (probably, huh?) even with the TED?
January 12, 2012 at 6:45 pm #69698hellbenntKeymasteran occasional mucousy or green poop is normal…what are you looking for? skin to clear up? no green spots ever?
It’s hard to read tone – I’m not trying to be snarky- just trying to understand what the issues are…the night wakings sound fairly normal…and you don’t ‘have’ to start solids at 6 months…you can hold off a bit more if you want…as for calcium, there might be a supplement out there that’s dairy/soy/corn/etc free?you can have rice products. there’s also potato ‘milk’ (you can eat potatoes on the TED, right? I think I remember that you can, lol)Have you read a lot of the links?Erin‘s sticky: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=12948&PID=105126#105126More Erin: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=13175&PID=106395#106395

January 12, 2012 at 7:37 pm #69699AnonymousInactiveI guess I assumed that if there weren’t any offending foods that his poop would go back to normal- nice smelling and seedy and yellow, not rust and not the weird consistency it is. I don’t want to do the TED for nothing, I don’t think he is healed up and think that something else is bothering him still, or that he just isn’t healed up all the way.
January 12, 2012 at 8:11 pm #69700hellbenntKeymastergot it. I don’t know…I suppose give it the full two weeks? and then, if things are the same, try cutting out the rice & if you don’t see improvement after 4 or 5 days, add it back in and cut out the turkey? I think that’s what Erin did…
