My son insists on sleeping on his stomach, which means no swing, vibrating chair, car seat. So, we elevate his mattress with a wedge we bought but when we lie him on the incline he always ends up rolling off the incline. Anybody know how to keep baby inclined without him rolling to the base of the incline?

August 25, 2011 at 10:25 am #68937AnonymousInactiveThat’s exactly what I do. I have a motion monitor and sleep him on his tummy. (He’s 6 mo now anyway, so SIDS isn’t a big risk any more). But, when on his belly, he doesn’t stay on the incline…rolls off all the time.

August 30, 2011 at 10:26 pm #68962AnonymousInactiveA tucker sling will keep him in place. http://www.tuckersling.com/khxc/index.php?app=ccp0&ns=catshow&ref=CribMattress&sid=3m7k9az5593kfb411730z5he40209h5p

August 31, 2011 at 2:56 pm #68965AnonymousInactiveWow, perfect. Exactly what I was envisioning in my head. I’ve been pushing on my husband (an engineer) to “make” something like this, but by the time he does it, I’m sure my son will be in college. I just called my insurance company and it has to be approved by a medical review board, which can take 4-6 weeks… Now, I just have to convince my husband to spend the money upfront and risk that the insurance company won’t cover it. Anyway, thanks!
August 31, 2011 at 3:28 pm #68966AnonymousInactiveI just orderered the fabric piece…. not the wedge. Instead instead of the wedge I took took a 2×4 and cut it into 4 blocks. I took 2 blocks and screwed them together with one long screw so I had a 4×4. I did the same with the other two. I then placed those blocks under the legs at the head of the crib. That raised the head 4 inches. Then I added a one inch crib wedge like this one onto the mattress under the mattress pad and sheet… http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2401848. That raised the head another inch for a total of 5 inches. Then I slipped the Tucker Sling over the top of the mattress like shown on their website. Worked perfect!!! I can send you a photo if you want. If you want a more polished look, you can go to Bed Bath and Beyond and buy the bed risers like this.. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/search/search.aspx/bed-riser/?sstr=bed+riser&grid=20&dim=1&nty=1&
Ryan is three and I still have the head of the bed elevated like this.September 2, 2011 at 3:45 pm #68974AnonymousInactiveGreat! Thank you. I actually have that exact 1″ wedge, so I’m halfway there. 2 questions for you:
1) Does it have to be elevated 5 inches in order for the Tucker Sling to work?
2) Is it hard to get an already sleeping baby into the sling without waking him?
Thanks! ~Diana

I didn’t think it was hard to get him in. Reflux moms become very stealth like. : ) I will say though that really loved the Fisher Price Soothing Motions glider more. That thing save us and 2 of my friends with reflux babies. See if you can find one on Craigs list. I used it more than anything else and I had the Tucker sling and the Nap Nanny both. The sling was super nice though too and I could still use my Angel Care apnea monitor with it which was a huge bonus. I would get one of those if you have not yet since you have a stomach sleeper. Worth every cent you pay for it to have the piece of mind. Its my #1 favorite baby gift to give.
September 6, 2011 at 2:19 pm #68980AnonymousInactiveI just won a Tucker sling on ebay yesterday….can’t wait to get it! Honestly, I’m doubtful it will help, because I’ve tried so many different positions and contraptions and nothing has helped. But I’m hoping!
1 inch does nothing for my son right now, but I’m hoping to get to 30 degrees with the sling and see if that helps. I was reading all of the research I could find the other day that has been done on positioning and infant reflux. They all basically came to a similar conclusion: The only position that significantly decreased frequency and severity of reflux was on belly on a 30 degree incline. We’ll see.
That FP glider looks pretty nice but unfortunately my son refuses to sleep on his back in anything. Yes, I already have an apnea monitor and I love it! Glad I will still be able to use it with the tucker sling. Thanks!
