Has anyone ever experienced Prevacid giving their child gas? For the past 4 nights my son has been sleeping horribly and wakes up at 1:30 and thrashes around in his sleep for the rest of the night. He wants to be unswaddled but when you do he scratches at his face which also makes him mad. He is never fully awake when doing this, but he does it all night. The past couple of nights he has passed tons of gas and I’m not really sure why. I haven’t changed formula, medicine or anything else. He has been on the current dose of Prevacid from 1 week to the day he started being extra gassy. Anyone else ever experience this?

My little girl was arching her back and screaming for hours while on it, when we took her off it the problem went away. Abdominal pain is listed as one of the side effects, but the doctor didnt seem to know why it was happening or didn’t believe me one of the two.

Their bodies are adjusting to digesting without the acid. Its a great indication that the meds are working, which is great! I used Mylicon drops to get him through the adjustment period. I hope you stuck with it. It will subside.

My son passes logs of gas but the Prevacid dose was too high and I think it was giving him some pain. We backed off and the thrashing stopped. Glad I figured it out!!

My son was on the compound 2.5 ml 2x daily. The pediatrician said this was the only dose that can be given..but I’m wondering if I gave it to him in another form, like the solutab could I give him less and perhaps he would not be in pain. Right now we switched to Zantac which is totally ineffective for him. Do you have any ideas based on your experience?
March 5, 2012 at 12:48 pm #70007hellbenntKeymasterwell the dose sounds low- so I’m not sure?
have you read through Prevacid 101 and looked at the dosing chart?Prevacid 101:
scroll to the last page of this post, (it’s actually also about other PPIs like prilosec, too)
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1936&PN=0&TPN=1I’d start there.next: I wouldn’t give a compound (read through prevacid 101 to learn why).also: the solutabs have their own ‘things’ that might and I say MIGHT affect your baby- aspertame (is there aspertame or some other ingredient in the compound? again, it’s in Prevacid 101)you can always try prilosec or nexium- the dose for these are also in Prevacid 101…in the meantime, how much does he weigh & I can help you calculate proper zantac dosing (link to that is also linked from prevacid 101), tooMarch 5, 2012 at 1:04 pm #70009AnonymousInactiveThank you, I did “breeze” through that post…but i’ll take a closer look. He weighs 11.6 pounds and is currently taking 1.7 ml of Zantac 3x daily. His last dose is at about 7pm so by 2am he is sreaming.
