My ds is 5 months old. he wakes up every 45 min – 1 hour at night; crying suddenly, requires rocking/patting/bounce to get back to sleep as he is squirming and wiggles. He passing gas and is a little better for a while. when he eats he stiffens his legs and pulls his head back–then he will start to cry–sometimes in a few minutes sometimes half way thru a feeding. We have tried prevacid (I am following the prevacid 101 infor–dd had this 3 yrs ago and their best guess is reflux and maybe dairy intolerence) Ds does not have blood or mucous in his stool. Right now they are yellow and like a very thin cream soup. I am not eating dairy, eggs or nuts for several months and in the last 5 days no soy, wheat or corn.
Is this reflux?? is it a food intolerence?? Please guide me. He is gaining wt on the prevacid.

when you say thin cream soup- perhaps the ‘cream’ might be mucous?are you reading ingredients? are you certain you are avoiding all milk proteins, including ‘hidden dairy?’see what happens a little longer w/o the soy, wheat & corn?can you find some mylanta to settle him during a feed? I’ve read it’s hard currently, but if you can find some that has no aluminum (the adult kind, as there is no children’s) – look at store brands, too, like cvs brand, etc…you can give in 1ml increments (or more) – up to 2.5mls over a 24hr time period…January 17, 2011 at 12:27 pm #67632AnonymousInactiveds is taking 7.5mg of Prevacid (solutabs-give 1/2 tab and discard the rest) twice a day. I give it to him via a baby spoon disolved in a little water-wait 30 min then feed. GI I saw also started him on Bethanechol 1.4 mg with his Prevacid (like his sister takes). His stool is just slightly thicker than watery (before bethanechol). GI doc saw one of his diapers and tested it for blood-neg, didn’t note any mucous.
Just had a upper gi this am. After only drinking 15 ml of contrast they saw reflux and were concerned some tried to go in his airway (this was via the radiologist). Also where intestines come out of stomach and are shaped like a “C”, ds intestines did NOT make a complete “C”–malformation dx by radiologist. Waiting for word from the GI, but radiologist is recommending swallow studies and surgery consult for the malformation.
I am pretty sure I am avoiding all dairy, we have been doing that with dd for 2 years. Thanks for the tip about the Mylanta. I know there has been some that don’t like Bethanechol, but it seems to work for dd and I don’t know of anything to replace it.
Thank you for responding. I would just feel better to know I am not crazy and someone else has been through this too. this is my second time and this mornings test is the first “proof” of the dx – ‘reflux”. You wouldn’t believe how many people even in my own family don’t really believe that is what dd has had for 3 yrs!
Now if we can find out WHY he has reflux, food or stucture?? Wouldn’t that be great!
January 17, 2011 at 2:15 pm #67637hellbenntKeymasterno need to discard the rest of the solutab- wrap it in foil & keep in the fridge- you never know when you might need it- you might research here & find that your son’s dose can be increased…
Prevacid 101, last post on the page, has the link to the dosing chart & will tell you other ways/tips on how to administer the prevacid- you can use much less water- basically as little or no water as works best for baby- some even just hold the solutab in alongside the inside of the cheek and hold it there as it dissolves and wash it down w/ some water-last post on the page:Prevacid 101, last post on the page,PPI dosing chart:April 20, 2011 at 12:02 am #68197AnonymousInactiveJust wanted to say that I could have written your post… Won’t get to see the pedi for a few weeks yet though. Dr gave her Nexium once a day (we’ve just started) as she thought it could be silent relux. We have episodes through the day of sudden screaming, body & leg stiffness, passing wind, writhing in pain etc. She is the same as your LO with feeding – stiffness, screaming & rwfusing to feed when we start or after about 5 minutes. For a long time she has only taken 1 side for feeding and has steadily not gained any weight… Thinking dairy intolerance… Hope your Lo feels better – just wanted to say I know how you feel!!
