I am so upset after seeing my sons GI today! I felt as though we were rushed in and out of the appointment like his time was more important than ours, and since my son is gaining weight just fine any other issues did not matter.
Lets just ignore the fact that he wakes up every hour at night drawing himself up in a ball and crying in his sleep frantically trying to find a way to get comfortable enough to go back to sleep. Oh no lets just reduce his problem to “night terrors”
We can ignore that for a majority of the day we are unable to even get his attention because he is constantly groaning and flailing his arms trying to fight discomfort caused by both gas and reflux. He’s just “playing” that’s all.
RIGHT!Not to mention he actually said “you know as he grows he will do a lot of things you don’t like, like crossing the road. Sometimes you just have to learn to deal with these things” The nerve! Your dang right I don’t like what is going on. My son is in PAIN. I believe there is a difference. Never in my life have I been so worked up after an appointment.
Sometimes I wonder when doctor’s stopped caring about their patients. HE’S 6 MONTHS OLD, and because of some overbooked doctor he has to suffer even longer before he is able to find any relief!
He has an appointment with his pediatrician the 23rd and I WILL be asking her to get me in with someone for a second opinion!
Thank goodness for this website as many of you seem to have more insight as to what is truly going on with my son!
TED day one starts now, and boy do I ever need a hug!
All that being said if anyone can recommend A GI specialist in the Atlanta, GA area that would be so helpful

My dd was up severy 20 – 60 minutes all night long, every night of her life, until she finally outgrew her miserable reflux at 9 months of age. I knew she was hurting because she did what your son is doing. She looked like she was trying desperately to get comfortable and go back to sleep. She wanted to sleep, but couldn’t. Every one doubted me (that it was reflux keeping her up all night) but one night when she was 9 months old I put her to bed and she slept all night long and that was the end of it. Her suffering was over. The reflux was gone and she could finally get some sleep. (She had other symptoms of reflux as well that also went away at 9 months).
With my son, I refused to let him suffer. I learned a lot from this site. (I didn’t know about this site when my dd was little). I printed and faxed all the marci-kids info to my son’s doctor and then called repeatedly to report how miserable he was until I finally got a prescription for Prevacid at the marci-kids dose, and guess what? He got better. Mommy was right again!!!!!!
Don’t give up. You know your child like no body else. Doctors are idiots when they incorrectly assume that just because a baby is gaining weight, they are fine. Weight gain is only one indicator or health and well being.
Have you tried Mylanta? What about OTC Prevacid? I wish Prevacid had been OTC when my poor kids were suffering.
Good luck. I hope your little guy is feeling better soon.ndrose2010-06-17 10:09:16

December 29, 2010 at 10:37 pm #67440AnonymousInactiveI know this may sound weird, but if you are in the Atlanta area, look up Dr. Philip B. Crane. He is a chiropractor/kinesiologist. He used to be in NJ and still does come up here for his old patients once a month. I took my son to him and after 4 visits saw a drastic change. He found that my baby had a hiatal hernia, he adjusted it and what a difference….it is evident that his pain was gone and its been almost 3 weeks since we saw him. He does still spit up, but usually it follows a smile and leads into another. My entire family was treated by him for over 15 years and he has never disappointed us. As crazy as it may sound, my baby was transverse from weeks 33-36 and my OB was getting set to schedule my C-section. I had one more week to get that baby turned down so I spoke to Dr. Crane and when I saw him, he did some muscle tests and used a pressure point and the next day in ultrasound the baby was head down. I know some people find this hard to believe, but honestly, this man has helped so many people out. My baby was not the only reflux baby being seen by him on the day of his first appointment. Dr. Crane is in the Peachtree City area. Good luck! I hope you find this helpful!
