My Lo gets the hiccups all the time, probable a minimum of 3 xs a day. We were using gripe water because they stopped them quickly, however I found out on this forum it isn;t good to use.

My question is: Could he be getting so many because his prevacid dose is not high enough. He does 7.5 2x’s day… he is 6 weeks and a week ago he was 10lbs….or…is this just part of the reflux we have to work through.

They are very hard hiccups and they hurt him, it is so sad.

Have you tried just plain ole simethecone (gas drops)? We used them all the time. in every bottle, before a feed, after a feed and as needed and they helped tremendously and they aren’t absorbed so they don’t harm the baby at all. Hiccups are sign of reflux and my son always had them and still occasionally has them now.

I have used them when he gets gassy on the other end, but not for hiccups. I will try it.

Dr Phillips with Marci Kids told me the hiccups are from too much acid in the stomach, my pedi doesn’t really agree…its pretty funny really, I don’t know who is right, but I do know when my LO relaxes, they go away. I just started noticing that.

update. since Connor has been on Zegerid he has only had the hiccups 2 times in 3 days.. he use to have them 5 plus times a day!
