My LO has been doing this for two days and it has me freaked out. I think it might be reflux related but I dont know. I did take him to the ER and they watched the video and said no not a seizure……..but what is it? Tell me what you think. Sorry the video is blurry but you can see it….

Honestly, just kind of looks to me like he’s not liking whatever’s going down. Maybe take some more extensive/clearer footage and then post again and show it to your GP. Good luck.
September 1, 2009 at 9:27 pm #63769AnonymousInactiveit didn’t look like anything out of the norm that you might see while feeding a baby to me.
September 1, 2009 at 10:13 pm #63770AnonymousInactiveIt is definately not a seizure! Sandifer’s I am not as familiar with but it doesn’t look like that to me either.
September 2, 2009 at 9:48 am #63772AnonymousInactiveit looks like it refluxed back up.. because if you watch his face after the first spoonful it kind of got serious.. then he shivered..
ugh.. do you have him on any meds?September 2, 2009 at 3:16 pm #63774AnonymousInactiveOk here is a clearer video. He does this several times a day. I think it looks like something nasty came up but it has me freaked. Do you think it looks like a seizure?
September 2, 2009 at 4:39 pm #63778AnonymousInactiveI personally don’t. There are lots of different types of seizures though, and they all present differently. But it looks like is aware and alert the whole time, which doesn’t typically happen during even more minor seizures, or absence seizures. BUT, if you’re worried, take a good stretch of footage and show it to your pediatrician. If s/he’s worried, then they can refer you for an EEG (which is a test to look for seizure activity). The truth is, no one on this site can really tell you either way. There have been many moms who had docs who suggested EEG just to be sure, and then they said maybe it’s reflux related Sandifer’s. BUT, there have also been moms on here who thought that their children had Sandifer’s, and to the more untrained eye, we thought that it was nothing, and it was seizures. In your son’s case, it doesn’t look like a seizure to me, but really best to hear it from a professional. Better safe than sorry. Good luck.
September 2, 2009 at 4:46 pm #63780AnonymousInactiveMy ped is aware and has seen several pieces of footage and isnt worried about it. I wish he would order an EEG for piece of mind but he hasnt. I am waiting to hear from him to see what he thinks but he hasnt called yet.
I was just curious if others have experienced this with reflux thats all!September 3, 2009 at 8:05 am #63783AnonymousInactiveAn EEG doesn’t necessarily give peace of mind. It only means that a seizure wasn’t caught on the EEG,not that seizures aren’t happening. If your son is only having those episodes with feeding, that would make it seem less likely to be seizures to begin with, but even so, you wouldn’t catch it during an EEG b/c you wouldn’t be feeding him. Most EEGs are done asleep. Also, for young babies and children they have to sedate them for the EEG- just something to think about. Good luck.
