Anyone else experience blood in your baby’s spit up? She is 7 weeks old and spits up ALL the time. She gets dark pink flecks in her spit up about 1-2 times a day. The GI specialist said it was blood.

I am breastfeeding and the blood isn’t coming from me. She is going to go in for an endoscopy to see what is going on.

She hasnt had blood in her stool at all.

She is on prevacid 7.5 twice a day and carafate 3 times a day. I am also on a dairy-free and soy-free diet.

Any input is appreciated.

there is a lot to say about this, lol. have you tested her stool for occult blood (blood you cannot see w/ your eye?)

I would make sure the prevacid dose is what http://www.marci-kids.com recommends and that you’re giving it properly; if it’s a solutab it needs to be given on an empty stomach, follwed by a meal 30 minutes later.

I would also make sure you’re spacing the carafate and the prevacid 2hrs seperate from one another:

Her stool was checked by the doctor- no blood.

I am spacing the doses out like you mentioned.

are you sure that the colored flecks you are seeing are not a little bit of the prevacid? usually it is purple, but it seems possible that watered down a bit could make it look like pink flecks instead of purple flecks.

i would think that if she was spitting up blood, that some of it would be passing in to her stool and showing up as occult blood.

i’m glad your doc is doing a scope, that should give you some answers. i would think that blood in spit-up would show up as pale pink or red, not dark pink.
