Holden had a GI appointment with Dr. Putnam at Cincy children’s hospital. He got rave reviews on here under looking under GI specialist reviews. So I was expecting him to be on with Marci Kids dose, Right now my son is on a high dose at 15 mg twice a day along with Reglan. His last ped GI wanted to do a fundo on him (Thanks kevieb for the support you gave me then!) b/c of his probe results (202 episodes with only 2 being acidic b/c it was done on [revacid). we then had our doc changed to putnam based upon everything I have heard about him. Anyway, these are the recommendations
1) Prevacid is too high. You can only produce so much acid. Too much Prevacid can cause a lack of appetite as nausea is a side effect. Go down to 15 mg split and use Maalox for breakthrough acid the first week.
2) Increase Reglan. It has done wonders for Holden and he says it is weight sensitive and it needs to go up or it is pointless to give it to him. Also his gastric emptying scan showed DGE. With Holden’s problems he says the benefits outweigh the risks. I am fine with this change b/c without it things are horrible.
3) Try soy formula again to see if allergies are still an issue. Currently been on elecare and scope showed no damage and eos for allergies but this was on elecare.
4)Stop using simply thick. If this os motility then thicker liquids can worsen it.
I am to make these changes one wek at a time so I will know if he pukes his guts up (as the dr put it) what the cause is. I am to report back for a follow u[ in a month. He is so well respected I hate to not at least try all the suggestions and then tell him how it goes when we go back. I am very nervous about decreasing the prevacid and trialing off elecare. Has anyone still on this board seen this doctor and know about his dosing, etc?
