It seems the nexium is not working. I took Dd back to the dr yesterday and her ped was AWFUL to me. He said that she is already getting slammed with a huge dose of nexium (20mg) and if that dosn’t work, than nothing will. I suggested that maybe reflux was not the problem then and he said and i’m quoting here “well I can look her over again, but I’v already done this”
He then in a totally condensating manner proceded to look at her and tell me the most rediculous things, like “well, she dosn’t have CP” and “I don’t see any hair wrapped around her fingers or toes” and “she dosn’t have a diaper rash” I couldn’t believe it! He didn’t even look in her mouth, her throat, her stomach area. I grabbed my baby from him, told him it was obvious he was trying to humour me, I thanked him for his time and proceded to leave. Of course I was in tears by this time because that is how I react when I’m frusterated, so then he goes into a speel about post partum depression, and support groups and blah blah blah…..
I AM NOT DEPRESSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am frusterated!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am frusterated that I can’t do anything to help my baby
I’m frusterated that her dr is a jerk
I am frusterated that DD dosnt’ want to eat some days
I AM FRUSTERATED
He made me feel so bad yesterday that I will not be bringing her back to him for anything related to her reflux/crying, and i’m beginning the process of finding a new, more respectful dr.
May 21, 2009 at 3:48 pm #62627hellbenntKeymasterI am so sorry!
what form of nexium? how are you giving it?I would email dr philips from marci-kids….I’d also ask about carafate, too.hugs!(can you go to upper right-hand corner of page to ‘settings’ and ‘edit settings’ and update profile’ and then signature: so we can know whart formula or breastfeeding, etc? I would put nexium 20mgs and baby’s age, too. thanks! this way we won’t have to keep asking you)May 21, 2009 at 5:29 pm #62630AnonymousInactivePlease hang in there. I know EXACTLY how you feel and feel your pain, really, I can still remember. I wish I had more time to write, but have been so busy with work and I just moved. But I’m in Toronto. Where are you located? Maybe I can help. I promise that I’ll make time to write back to you on my lunch tomorrow. Hang in there.
May 21, 2009 at 5:53 pm #62631AnonymousInactiveYour ped is a moron! I have had similar experiences. I was an emotional wreck when I took my screaming baby in at 6 weeks. The Dr. actually suggested that if I couldn’t handle it I could take him to a local hospital and leave him and it would not be considered abandonment!!!!
That made me cry even more! I could not believe that she had said THAT!
I would never in a million years leave my poor baby anywhere! She has since apologized profusely for saying that but needless to say we have moved on to another ped. (and ped GI).Keep fighting for your baby. Find others doctors that will treat you with respect and as an equal. Our ped GI is very easy to work with and describes us as as a TEAM! You can find better care out there.

May 21, 2009 at 10:38 pm #62633AnonymousInactiveHI.
I have not posted on here in long time, but still check in everynow and then. What form of Nexium are you doing? Ashlynn my little girl who getting ready to turn 2 is still geting a night dose. How are you giving it? I was giving Ash 10mg in the am waiting 30 min before feed and then 10mg at night before summer. When she wasr little she was on the packets and now I just split a pill in half. I hope this helps you.stcwatt2009-05-21 22:41:44
May 22, 2009 at 11:37 am #62638AnonymousInactivethat is exactly the dose that my dd is getting. she is only 10lbs, but she had half a 10mg tab in the morning disolved in expressed breast milk, and she really dosn’t have any interest in feeding until about an hour after she has this, and again she has the same dose in the evening.
May 22, 2009 at 2:09 pm #62639AnonymousInactivei can’t tell you how angry this makes me. i am obviously hormonally crazy and totally out of whack these days and i have been known to say and do some pretty bizarre things when i am in this kind of state—-i wish i could have a go at your doc right now! LOL!!LOL!!LOL!!
i hope you find someone new really soon. have you made an appt with a ped gi yet?
May 22, 2009 at 4:04 pm #62642hellbenntKeymasterI don’t think you should dissolve in breastmilk? just dissolve in water…and give on an empty stomach followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later.
the dose of 10mgs (total for the day) sounds low?is it a dissolvable kind of pill? or is it a capsule you break open & give the beads?I would email dr philips from marci-kids….May 22, 2009 at 5:39 pm #62645AnonymousInactiveI don’t think you should dissolve in breastmilk? just dissolve in water…and give on an empty stomach followed by a ‘meal’ 30 minutes later.

It is 10 mg, 2 times a day, so total of 20. The Nexium I give is a tablet, but really just a bunch of pellets stuck together. I dissolve the tablet which then turnes into a bunch of beads and give those to her
Also, in my area, in order to see a specialist you must first be refered by your dr. I will not be ablr to take my baby to a ped gi unless i can get ger refered, but since her dr is not cooperating, this will be difficult
May 23, 2009 at 5:29 pm #62655hellbenntKeymasteremail dr philips and ask how to administer the nexium…
I would email dr philips from marci-kids….he is a dr of pharmacology & is at the FOREFRONT of dosing of PPIs in infants. many of us have emailed him.I don’t know if you should dissolve w/ something acidic like apple juice or just dissolve w/ water. I would imagine not to dissolve w/ breastmilk…May 23, 2009 at 10:35 pm #62661AnonymousInactiveDh isn’t familiar with the pill form (are you referring to a tablet) or the capsule. If you are doing the capsule he said no EBM you need something acidic like Apple juice or apple sauce (not much, just enough to take the med) Since you are in Canada we may need to check with Sheri (MFPIX2) since she is a pharmacist there (she is out of town at the moment but you could PM her) and she may be more familiar with the form you are using. HTH.
May 24, 2009 at 9:24 am #62665AnonymousInactiveThe pill does not sound familiar to me either. When Ashlynn was 4 /1 months we started the granules that i mixed with water. At about 9 months we switched to the capsule and mixed it with a little applesause. Nexium was the miraclel drug for us. Ihope that things get better for you.
Ashlynnn is getting ready to turn 2 the 3rd of June and still at times has problems with reflux.May 24, 2009 at 7:03 pm #62669AnonymousInactiveis it ok to give a a small bit of apple juice to a 3 month old?
