I am currently on day 5 of the total elimination diet and I was just curious when you saw a difference.
For us our symptoms are eczema, mucusy stools, and poor sleep. The eczema is almost completely gone but the mucusy stools are still there. But he has had fever of 102+ for the past 2 days so I wonder if that is why his stool are mucusy. They almost look worse than they have ever looked? Do you think the virus is why? How long should it take until he starts having normal poops? His sleep also has gotten a lot better but it I dont know if that is because he had a fever? But the eczema being gone is amazing?
I also stopped his prilosec b/c when I increased the dose his eczema looked worse. SO I stopped and now it looks better. Not sure if it is the diet or the removal of prilosec?

next work on the gas?- the mucous will be the last to go as the gut takes some time to heal-look into probiotics- they have been the latest rage around here, lol! I usualyy have all of my links but computer crashed so go to upper right-hand corner of page and click on search and use key workds ‘probiotics brands used’- you’ll find the link, lol!what kind of prilosec? maybe something in the prilosec was bothering him? that’s what I would think…if reflux is still bothering him, not ‘just’ gastric issues, then you can work on finding a med that won’t exacerbate the ecczemaApril 22, 2009 at 9:17 am #62231AnonymousInactiveFor us, the skin reactions, labored breathing & SOME of the sleep issues got better within days.
The mucousy stools took almost 5 weeks to clear up… remember that their little colons take a long time to heal when they’ve been irritated so badly.
Is he currently having any stinky gas? In general, if the stinky gas is gone then you are eating the ‘right things’ & you just have to wait for the intestine to heal. If he’s still having stinky gas (wait though for another week to assess this since you’re only on day 5 of TED) then something you’re eating is still bothering him.
My guess would be that if he was having bad eczema then your diet was bothering him pretty badly & thus, the mucousy stools are NOT due to a virus but rather the irritation in his GI tract.
Hang in there!

The sleep is still really horrible. But he isnt on his reflux meds anymore. I think he needs them back but I really feel like the meds caused all the digestive issues. I read an article saying that they cause digestive issues and I swear we didnt have any issues until we started medicating the reflux. Does anyone have any tricks to help him sleep with reflux? HE isnt fussy he just keeps waking every 45 mins and then I put his binky back in and pat him on the butt and he goes back to sleep. I just dont want to get up every 45 mins all night. Would elevating his crib help? I havent started cereal yet he will be 6 mos next week. Did anyone notice that helped with the reflux?
April 24, 2009 at 4:44 pm #62259AnonymousInactiveElevate his crib! That’ll help with the “wash up” of stomach juices…that’s probably what’s waking him.
Hang in there with that diet! Jaya’s stool took about 4-5 weeks to look normal.April 24, 2009 at 5:12 pm #62262AnonymousInactiveI forgot to add that COllin’s stools are starting to come back to normal. Less and less mucus with each day. I have added in a couple of things like grapes, pineapple(is this citris, some say it is some say it isnt), green beans. I think I might add chicken in what is the diff between that and turkey they are both birds. ha
Oh and yeah we are at the docs 1-2x a week as well. I have paid over 500 dollars on copaysApril 25, 2009 at 1:12 pm #62276hellbenntKeymastermaybe meds didn’t ‘work’ before bcse diet was an issue? now that it’s under control, try meds?
try bufferbabies?or solutabs?or zantac or axid or pepcid to start?April 28, 2009 at 6:51 pm #62324AnonymousInactiveI don’t think there is much difference with the turkey and chicken. My doctor had me start on JUST chicken and rice for 5 DAYS ugggghhhhhhh. Anyway, the chicken didn’t hurt us so I bet it’s worth a try.
I figure pineapple is a little too acidic so I’m scared to try it yet. Jaya is a little younger than Collin, I think.
Those co-pays stink!!! Hopefully, you and baby will even out soon.
I agree with Laura though. If Collin doesn’t even out, the medicine would help. Jaya uses Prevacid…I think all the PPI’s take 2 weeks to work.April 29, 2009 at 12:18 pm #62328AnonymousInactiveThanks Mandy. Well I spoke to soon about sleep. He still sleeps only 45 min stretches. I think I am going to die!! The diet is going alright I am hungry. But his eczema has lessened and his stools are no longer mucusy.
He is on prevecid now on the solutabs. He was prescribed 15mg tablets 1/2 a tablet a day. He is 16lbs 5 oz is this the right dose? He has been on it 2 days. I thought his sleep should improve on the first dose? Anyone chime in?April 29, 2009 at 2:30 pm #62329AnonymousInactiveIt takes 2 weeks on that medicine. Or what feels like a lifetime : (
I hold it on the inside of her cheek till it disolves to make sure she gets the whole dose. I tried that whole suck it up into a syringe thing…that never worked!
That dose sounds really low for your baby. Is he in pain? Maybe that low dose will help him with the sleep? I called the doctor every week when the pain got out of hand to increase Jaya’s dosage. She’s on 30 mg (one 15mg tab in the am one 15 mg tab in the pm). Now, this is for a baby screaming with pain before the medicine, so I can’t take her off it.
Bless your heart on the sleep. I wish I could think of more tactics in that department. Do you swaddle him still? Maybe you could try that?April 29, 2009 at 7:39 pm #62331hellbenntKeymastercheck the dose at http://www.marci-kids.com (it does sound low)
