I am so confused I hope someone can help. My son has eczema and did have a couple mucusy poops. Like maybe two. So I cut out dairy and nothing has really gotten better. Well the poops got better but like I said he only had two so it is hard to say if it was really milk. Could have been a virus. Anyway his eczema is really what I am noticing as the problem. He also has been itching his eyes and rubbing his ears like crazy. I had them checked and they look great. So I am still thinking allergy but I dont know what to do.
Last week we took him to the allergist and we had him skin tested for dairy, eggs, wheat, corn, barley, oats, rice, chocolate, dog, soy, and peanut. Which were all negative. We also had a blood test done that tested for a ton of things. We wont know the result of it until a week or two.I just dont know what to do. If he wasnt itching his ears and eyes I woudl think he just has eczema but he is clearly itchy?!?!?! Any suggestions?April 5, 2009 at 1:57 pm #61968AnonymousInactiveenvironmental allergies? Spring is here… How old is he? Both my boys have the environmental allergies….. This is a brutal time of year as the weather gets warmer….
April 5, 2009 at 5:52 pm #61974AnonymousInactivehe is 5 months old could that be a possiblity? Would that make your eyes and ears itch? I did notice today his eczema looks better? I am sure by tonight I wont think so:(
April 5, 2009 at 7:57 pm #61975AnonymousInactivehave you maybe changed his soap, laundry detergent or lotion? That could be causing the eczema too.
April 6, 2009 at 12:27 am #61979AnonymousInactivei’d be leaning towards thinking environmental allergies, also.
April 6, 2009 at 7:49 am #61982AnonymousInactivenot sure how old they have to be but 5 months is early for any allergy testing to test positive. Dylan did test positive to grass and dust prior to 2 years, but Carter tested negative and has the same symptoms at the same time of year, so I am certain he has them also…….
I would ask your pedi about claritin? I never gave my boys any allergy meds prior to 1 year except benedryl, so I would def. ask the ped if you can try something and see if it helps. If it does, then you have your answer…..let us know what you find out…Ann MarieApril 6, 2009 at 2:44 pm #61990AnonymousInactiveOkay speaking as a mom with a child with horrible allergies:
The testing probably isn’t accurate. They don’t like to test for any allergies usually until 1yr old and then they only usually test for food… I had to insist on enviro testing when Cooper was 18 months old and he came back positive for all sorts of things, which shocked my allergist. I would check with your doc about giving something like Zyrtec that is what we use but didn’t start it until 11 months old so I don’t know if it is safe before 6 months. You could try some Benadryl (go to dr sears website for the dosing) and see if that helps with the itching and if it does then you have a pretty good indicator that it is some type of allergic reaction. Cooper has been miserable since Friday and we are off to the doc in about an hour as I fear all the nasal congestion has sparked another ear infection so even though he has already had his ears checked ear infections pop up rather quickly so it might be worth a shot to get them checked again. HTH.

April 7, 2009 at 1:29 pm #62009AnonymousInactiveThanks, I did have the blood test done on him but I am not sure if that wills how anything
April 7, 2009 at 1:31 pm #62011AnonymousInactiveThanks, I did have his ears checked yesteday and they were clear no fluid no nothing. I think when he refluxes his rubs his ears because he cant tell where the discomfort is coming from.
Everything I read says eczema is more linked with a food allergy? I dont know I am just at my wits end.:( -
