Hello All,
It’s been a while since I’ve posted because after we went on Neocate, LO seemed pretty good. Sleeping got better for the most part and refluxing stopped. A big thanks to all the parents on here who got us through a rough time.About 3 weeks ago we started trying to transition to whole milk. The first week I went slowly and didn’t notice any major symptoms like refluxing or mucous in poo. So I thought everything was OK. However, for the last week she has had MAJOR sleep issues. It is only at night. She’s up crying pretty hard several hours a night and nothing really soothes her. In my best momma opinion there is no issues with teething, fever, ears (pedi checked out), etc.My question is have any of you ever noticed that when you transitioned to milk is it possible that it takes a couple of weeks for the LO to start having MSPI issues…or would they happen right away? I guess I’m asking, is it possible it’s a delayed reaction to the whole milk or should I be looking at other causes? Thanks!!isabellasmommy 2009-03-10 19:34:58 March 10, 2009 at 8:47 pm #61522AnonymousInactiveHey, sorry this is happening. I”ll give you my experience. When I transitioned Cooper from Nutramigen, I made sure he was tolerating yogurt and cheese first and then I slowly transitioned to Gentlease and then at about 13.5months I transitioned him over to whole milk still slowly but not as slow as the first transition. Have you been giving her any yogurt or cheese? If you have and she isn’t having any problems, I might try a change to either a hypo formula or something like Gentlease where the proteins are broken down, but still there and then try the switch to whole milk around 15 months… Just my thoughts. HTH.

To answer the questions…I started off with transitioning to dairy with whole milk. Guess I should have asked here first…maybe that wasn’t the best idea in hindsight . Since I “thought” she was doing OK on milk I have given her some yogurt and cheese. So maybe I should cut out all dairy again (go back to Neocate) for a while to see if the sleep improves (to get a baseline), then add hypo formula, then add yougurt/cheese, then if everything’s OK slowly go to milk?In your opinions is it OK to do Neocate and other “infant” formulas even though the LO is over a year old?!?! I know they market the toddler formulas, but wasn’t sure if there is a specific nutritional reason they can’t stay on the infant ones.Other than that…I’m still wondering…do you think it’s possible that this MSPI could really only cause issues at night??? Last night, when she started having her first crying episode I actually got her out of bed. While we were in her room she was crying really bad (like terrified of something), but when I took her downstairs and turned on a soft light and started reading a book with her she settled down. Then a while later when I took her back upstairs and soon as we crossed the threshold she started crying really bad again.Ugh….it’s so frustrating that I can’t figure out how to fix my baby . Not to mention DH and I desparately need sleep. After 10+ months of bad sleep issues, then 2 months of OK sleep, to go back to this is scary and frustrating cause we don’t know what’s causing it.If it’s not the milk thing…has anyone experienced a time when their LO was sleeping “OK” to where they just switched to being terrified or something at night?!?!Thanks!March 18, 2009 at 8:55 pm #61727AnonymousInactiveSince my older had major problems transitioning to whole milk I knew that since Abby was on Neocate there was no way I was putting her on whole milk. So at 14mos we did a REALLY slow transition to goats milk. It took a good 4mos or more to get her to all goats milk but she had no problems. My oldest still can’t tolerate anything more than 1% milk. I know some kiddos that just can’t tolerate the whole milk but do okay on 2%. I would probably do what you said and go back to all Neocate and see if the problems at night improve.
