So my little 5 week old strains to poop everynight after his 2 am feeding. From about 3-7 am he groans and squirms struggling to poop or pass gas. He usualy poops by the morning or with the next feeding but it is strange because he only does this at this time. He can poop fine all day long. He is breastfed and his poops are always yellow/seedy. I am hoping it is just immaturity and will stop soon but was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on why it only happens at this time.
My little guy used to do this all night long until I removed the offenders from my diet – then it all stopped. BUT, we had green, mucousy, etc stools. Does your son have any stinky gas? If no & his stools are consistently yellow & seedy then I would say it may just be an immaturity thing.
thanks for the reply. My son does have mucousy poops-they are mostly yellow, occasionally green. My other son had mucousy poop but must have outgrown it at some pt-he is 2 now. I am trying to eliminate dairy starting today-is that the offender that worked for you?
If it’s only a nighttime thing, then it’s probably something you are eating about 4 hours prior to the feeding… maybe dinner? Is there something you have consistently been eating every day?
My daughter does the same thing in the early hours, after the feedinbg. She is formula fed-alimentum, and also has stinky gas. I hope too that it is an immaturity thing. She is now 6 weeks old. She had mucousy poop when she was on similac advance and also drinking my bm. Now it is green and slimy, but not sure if that is the normal bm when on alimentum. Has anyone tried giving their baby chamomile tea? Plain water?
