So I’m sorta new here. My DD’s reflux usually flares up around teething time and also certain foods aggravate her so we avoid those. The past 2 days have been really bad, she’s been refluxing more. She’s getting molars. She’s 17 months old. I’m so tired of reflux. Been dealing with this since day 1. It’s put so much stress on me and our family and we were not prepared to deal with it. Now I know a lot more and I feel for the new Moms/parents out there.
I just keep saying “it’s gonna get better!” She is on a low dose of Prevacid and it’s been controlling her reflux but seems like when she is teething she needs a little more. So she is getting more. I talked to some other reflux moms and apparently their kids are the same.I was so looking forward to her 1 yr appt hoping we won’t beed Prevacid anymore. Then we were praying for the 15 month, that passed too. Now she’s 17 months and I just want her off this drug. I have not tried to wean her lately and I’m really leary of doing that now.Sorry for my ramble and thanks for reading. I long for the day when I don’t have to use Prevacid or any other drug to treat my DD.February 15, 2009 at 3:57 pm #61040AnonymousInactiveHi! Like my dh said we went threw so much with our first and he is now happy and healthy so this too shall pass! But I feel your pain- this has put a ton of stress on my marriage and life in general. I’m stuck trying to time meds, feeding and naps which would be fine but I have a 3 year old who takes spanish, gymnastics and goes to preschool. So that adds extra stress but I don’t want Jack to suffer. Luckily Grant is a happy baby cuz I don’t know if I could handle it if he was a screamer like Jack.

February 16, 2009 at 7:00 am #61053AnonymousInactiveNo he was off all meds by 18months. We saw a really good peds GI at Brenners childrens hospital ( Dr. Fortunato) ,after having sub par care at Walter Reed, and he redid Jacks swallow study which showed his dysphagia was gone. He told us that we could try taking him off the prevacid since they thought his dysphagia was caused by the reflux. He was however an extremely picky eater until recently- he’s 3 years old. He wouldonly eat certain foods despite me expossing him to a broad range of organic homemade baby food 🙁 I thought my extra effort would ensure he would become a “good eater” but NOPE that wasn’t the case. We just made sure he ate his multi vitamins, his green veggie vitamins, and fish oil. Tho I will say this he is 3 years old and LOVES green veggies even broccoli- go figure. Just hang in there you LO is still young. Just keep saying “this too shall pass” I thought my kid would live on soy nuggets and mac and cheese for the rest of his life but now at 3 he is more willing to try new foods. I know his early food issues are strongly related to the GERD and dysphagia because even as a baby/ toddler he wouldn’t eat like other kids.
