Last night scared the wits outta me! recently I have only been able to get Katie to drink a 3oz-4oz bottle when asleep or falling asleep. Thought as long as I get nutrition into her. It worked for a couple of overnight feeds, but like everything else stopped working. She caught on and even at 2am she was acreaming when i picked her up to give her the bottle. At 8pm she was falling asleep so I thought okay food time. she wasnt even quite through with 1oz when she burped (she had gulped) and the vomit spew out all over everywhere! It was curdled and she had curds stuck in her nose and couldnt breathe, i have only had 1 other episode like this. i was shaking. mu hubby works overnight so my neighbour rushed over. I was so terrfied to feed her again. This reflux is a living nightmare that I feel I would never wake up from. I dont even know what day it is the days are just going by in a blurr. I am scared that she will end up in the hospital again because of a feeding strike! I dont think my already shot nerves can handle it. I asked doc to prescribe the zegerid for Katie but he called this morning and told me something about it not good for infants and calcium deficiency problems with it. Any of you heard about this? I hope that today will be a better day for all of us at least if only 1 or 2 feeds with our little ones.

*Has she had a swallow study &/or Upper GI done yet? I would consider those.
*Is she on any meds right now? It sounds like she needs to be on something ASAP before her feeding aversion worsens. If your general ped isn’t willing to help you then I would find a ped GI (& honestly, probably look for a new general ped). In the meantime you can always use Mylanta. I would probably try giving 1mL of Mylanta before each feeding.
Hang in there.
February 4, 2009 at 11:41 am #60779AnonymousInactiveshe’s had a lot of tests all negative except a swallow study. She has been on prevacid the liquid suspension but i think it is not working anymore, and reglan, also carfate but stopped because of constipation. she was also on Axid at one time. tried Zantac she vomited it at the first taste. Doc refused to prescribe Zegerid. i try the Mylanta but as soon as she sees the bottle she starts crying.

Also, try to switch your Prevacid to either solutabs or capsules. Chances are the suspension is not compounded properly thus not working. Also, take a look @ her dose @ marci-kids.com.
Here’s what I would do to try to maximize her comfort w/ the tools you have for now…
*Start the Axid again (it tastes much better than Zantac). Give her the max dose (10mg/kg) split into 2 doses.
*Give Mylanta before every feed. This will coat her esophagus like the carafate BUT will actually help w/ the constipation (should loosen her stools).
