hello my name is david. my wife and I are struggling with our three month old. she was an rh baby which our doc missed so we almost lost her at birth. she was in the nicu for over a month most of it on the vent. on her third day her bilirubin spiked over thirty and it took a couple of days to bring it down. so she ended up with auditory neuropathy and kernicterus.
she also has server acid reflux. it sounds like she has asthma. she cries most of the time during the day and all the time during the night. she just recently decided not to eat and she is losing weight. some times she will get a couple ounces down but it is a struggle. my wife is at the ped today they want to change her to prevacid from zantac. Any suggestions or support would be appreciated
thank you……davidDecember 30, 2008 at 7:10 pm #59943hellbenntKeymasterhang in there!

I am not familiar with the RH issues and your current diagnosis, but Nicu is no stranger to us. It is a very emotionally charged time and a difficult one. Hang in there!!! You guys sound like you are doing great!December 30, 2008 at 9:37 pm #59946AnonymousInactiveHave they done any testing to make sure aspiration is not going on. With the raspy sounds I wonder if they could do an Xray to see.
I am soo sorry you are going through all this GERD is no fun at all. Been there done that, got the Tshirt.
A PPI will be a VERY good thing. Just make sure they give a high enough dose.
December 30, 2008 at 11:18 pm #59950AnonymousInactiveI am sorry you are going through this. I am shocked they missed the RH issue as i am RH- and they put a note in my medical record after the first set of test during my early pregnancy.
I agree with Jessica on the aspiration issue. My dd acted very similar when she was an infant. I used to feed her holding her in an upright position and it used to help a little with the screaming during feeding and held her on a baby carrier after feedings. She took many of her naps this way. Also i would keep the prevacid, just try to get a higher dose. In the mean time, maybe try Mylanta cherry surpreme (an antacid). You can buy this over the counter. Just make sure it does not contain aluminum in it.hang in there. -
