InactiveHello i have not posted for a while my dd has been reflux free for a while now, except for them few odd days. but now my issue is with my almost four year old son. his bowl movements have never been normal and the docs blame it on chronic constipation. he is a very small boy only weighing in at 28lb and he will be four in feb. his diet is horrible he only eats frozen french toast sticks choc milk(we make this with instant breakfast) his gut will not handle the pediasure so we have to get something in him and this is what he will drink. he will also eat maybe three oter foods. he has also just been diagnosed with PDD-NOS.
anyway the issue we are having right now is his bm’s they are so stinky (like something dead) and i am used to his stinky but, but this last week or so it has been bad, he is not potty trained so he wears a pull-up. his but is so burned and raw that it is bleading some and no med seems to be working. my doc is not in till after the 6th and i am at my whits end. i do not know what to do for the poor little guy he is not to happy.
sorry for going on and on. any advice is welcomed. thank youDecember 30, 2008 at 4:23 pm #59937Inactivesomething to help his bum in the meantime—-don’t laugh—-try using crisco shortening. you can smear it on really thick and then sprinkle it with cornstarch. it will at least help to protect his bum from the bm’s until you can see the doctor.
it seems like his diet is probably a cause of the chronic constipation—-he isn’t getting any fiber to move things along.kevieb2008-12-30 16:24:45

Her ped has us add miralax to her soy milk to help keep her moving. We were really hesitant to try it, but we found that her appetite improved after we started it. It turned out that she was having “stomach pains” that were really constipation pains and she felt more like eating after the constipation improved.
Is there a compounding pharmacy near you? The one near us has a special diaper cream that they mix up. I’m not sure what’s in it, but it was a huge help for both my girls when they reacted to antibiotics with awful diaper rash.

Brody is very picky and will not drink the whole drink it is mixed in, if there is something diff about the way i make it or if he sees the bottle on the counter he will not drink it so i have to be very sneaky about doing it. i thought that it would help him appetite and BM but even after a 3 day clean out about 2 months ago i really do not see a diff.
he is just so sad about his bottom. his poop tonight was all mucous and nasty. i just wish that the doc could tell me something. or i could do something to help him. i know his belly has got to hurt, he never complains about anything so it is hard to say. his grandma always teases him about his little belly sticking out. it is sticking out all the time so i don’t know if that has anything to do with it.December 30, 2008 at 11:52 pm #59952January 2, 2009 at 2:29 pm #60003InactiveNot to be make this sound as if im judging or hounding, but you need to have him eat other foods. Most children become picky because they know they can get away with it and get what they want instead, like sweet tastey french toast sticks with syrup and yummy chocolate milk.
To me it sounds as if he is malnurished. I have a 4 year old who weighs in almost 20 pounds more than your son. I do however make my children eat atleast 1 cup or one serving of fruit, meat. veggies ect…even if they claim to not like it, I make them have 1 serving.They don’t have to eat everything on their plates until it is gone, but I do however make them eat 1 serving of everything that is on their plate. I also do not allow my children candy or sugar filled foods, because then they would prefer this to veggies and meats.Also, I have taken Miralax, and if your son has diarreah its probably because Miralax is a laxative and not a fiber supplement. To much miralax will cause diarreah. I have my children on benefiber, it is tasteless, odorless, and colorless. Laura sent me an email to take a look at this post – just got back from vacation but i will be on tonight or you can PM me. I want to invite you to a different forum – it seems like there are some motility issues and some allergies or sensitivities as well?! This is actually more common than you think with spectrum disorders as well… now i am thinking a different group but PM me… a friend of mine has a kid on the spectrum and they went to a DAN doctor that did great things re ordering tests and discovering yeast and treating constipation.Also i am not much in this forum anymore but I think that you cannot say that a kid becomes picky because of what parents do and do not do and say that a kid is malnourished; i have had a kid who totally refused to eat adn yes, i could blame myself for a while, but sometimes there are bigger things going on, and we could not avoid a feeding tube. He eats everything, he is healthy but sometimes medical issues get in the way of food relationships and no matter how hard you try, you need professional help to overcome those issues. You cannot force all kids to eat and sometimes forcing a kid becomes the issue – don’t wnat to start a debate but i think that medical issues coudl interfere with feeding and it is not all about a particular parenting style.Anyway, like i said, please PM me or we can have a conversation here if you wish!!January 2, 2009 at 2:59 pm #60010KeymasterThanks Thais! I feel like it’s a game show and I email-out to various ‘life-lines’ from the past to help folks, LOL!!!January 2, 2009 at 4:28 pm #60022InactiveO.K I try every waking min of every day to try and get him to eat other food’s. i have tried every trick i have up my sleeve and the result i get is either crying and screaming for hours on end and /or if you force him to take a bite then he gags and gags and will throw up.
Believe me I know that he is small and ya there are definitely probably some nutrition issues. but i can not make him eat something that he will not eat, we have tried this and he ate nothing for 2 days and probably lost 2-4 pounds so what good did that do me?
Brody does not eat candy believe it or not he does not care for it. the diarrhea is not caused b the mirilax, i know that it is a stool softener and that is the exact reason we use it and have for about 5 months now because we usual have the toltal opposit of diarreah, very hard and very dry stools.
January 5, 2009 at 2:25 pm #60082InactiveHi There! I just wanted to agree w/Thais. I think that maybe intolerance/allergies may be contributing to his poop issues. Has he ever been tested for food allergies? Also, I’ve only ever heard great things about DAN dr.s and changes in diet. Maybe something to look into. Good Luck!
