April 12, 2006 at 10:55 am #5989AnonymousInactiveI am wondering if Kierra (11wks) is starting to react badly to Alimentum Advance. She started it at 2 wks old and was doing okay, but with occasional horrible tummy pains that subsided. Now, at 11 wks, after feedings she gets very mucousy and raspy in her chest followed by horrible tummy pains. She also starts choking/gagging after a couple of oz. Last night I tried everything to comfort her. She was screaming in pain. I gave her Hyland teething tabs, changed her, walked around in the outside breeze, went back inside then she had an explosion in the diaper followed by more screaming, I stripped her down (by now she was sweating) back outside we went and she finally passed out. It has been like this at the same time of day for the last few days and it seems to get worse each night.April 12, 2006 at 4:47 pm #6036hellbenntKeymaster
time for med increase? I’d try that first, then wait 2 weeks, then change formula if you need to…
April 13, 2006 at 12:52 pm #6080AnonymousInactiveDoes she also have horrible gas??? Farting bullets is how we described it. It was so painful for my dd, usually had mucousy blow outs too. She also spit up more. It took awhile for the milk proteins to build up in her system from the alimentum. We switched to neocate and on day 6 we saw major improvment. A week of constipation though, but once she got used to the new formula it subsided. Also, my dd’s eczema got alot better. maybe you can ask for a couple cans from your gi. ohh… and the Hylands have lactose in them that can bug mspi babies. Hope this helps, i went through almost the exact same thing a few months ago!

Her eczema is starting along her eyebrows and her eyes are very watery. I will stop with the Hylands as who knows if this could be adding to her troubles. Also the Prevacid Solutabs has lactose which she is on. I was told that this has “trace” amounts and should not bother her, but….everything else seems to bother her. I think I’ll try the Neocate today since I have a can from the GI office. This leads me to another question….what is the difference between Neocate and Elecare?
April 13, 2006 at 2:50 pm #6089AnonymousInactiveDefinately sounds like Ryann and a mspi issue. At 11 weeks we had to have the prevacid compounded. Wonder if it is the prevacid or the formula, maybe both? I don’t know what the difference is between the 2 hypoallergenic forumulas, maybe the price? You will need more than one can of neocate to get you through a week. It will be more watery too, we had to thicken with simply thick and oatmeal (a little at first). Also, mix the 2 forumals together at first to try to “trick” her into the switch so she won’t notice. If she gets too constipated, some moms give juice, she is alittle young, but maybe you could try some baby food. I had to use a laxitive the first week and enimas. Also, don’t be allarmed when you see blackish green poops. Let me know if you need anything during your switch. There are some good posts from a couple months ago when myself and a couple other moms made the switch at the same time. Good luck, hope her gas subsides really fast!
