Hi ladies,
My little guy (4 months old) started a PPI, Omeprazole, almost 3 weeks ago. I read here to keep the Zantac up for a couple of weeks because it can take that long to work so I continued with it. For the first two weeks or so he was on a low, liquid dose of Omeprazole once a day. Things have improved somewhat since then. I managed to convince the pharamicist to give me the capsules and to double the dose (still much lower than MARCI kids website suggests). I have only been giving him the “new” Omeprazole for a couple of days. To confuse things, I am on a no milk/soy diet right now to see if that will help (I know, stupid to do two things at once but I was getting frantic!). Things are still not great and I do not see the pediatrician until January 5th. Do you think I should continue with Zantac? I have been giving him one dose a day (1.5 ml).December 14, 2008 at 7:44 pm #59564hellbenntKeymasterkeep the zantac and even increase it (10mgs per kilo is the max)!
give 2 x a day, as you said the omeprazole isn’t high enough even w/ the increase you’re giving…remember to give the zantac 4 hrs seperate from the omeprazole…December 15, 2008 at 10:30 am #59580AnonymousInactiveI agree w/ Laura… continue the Zantac @ close to max dose/day until you have a PPI dose that is high enough.
December 18, 2008 at 8:41 am #59694AnonymousInactiveI had the same issue with my now 2 month old. I only had him on a very low dose of Zantac until about a month ago. When I was finally prescribed the Prevacid. I continues with both, and still had a hard time with my son having reflux episodes.
I decided to put him on the max dose of Zantac according to weight, and updating the dose every 5 pounds….I don’t increase his amount until he is 5 more pounds from the last time I upped it. I also have been giving him his Prevacid at Marci-Kids reccomendation, and it has given me a totally different baby.Conner is currently on 3.7ML’s of Zantac once a day, I seperate this amount into 2 doses…1.5AM and 2.2PM.His prevacid is 22.5 daily also in 2 doses.. 7.5 AM and 15mg PM.You have to mentally prepare yourself on a daily basis with gerdlings/MSPI. Your always going to be on a rollercoaster, one day baby will be a happy cooing slobbery eating machine, the next day he can turn into the grouch from H e l l. It’s something that is just going to happen.Conner does really good, but does have more reflux epidoses at night, im not sure why but thats when he has it the most. And remember to give your medications atleast 4 hours apart. My Doctor NEVER told me to wait 4 hours, I was only waiting 30 min in between meds, and eventually the prevacid stopped working, until I started waiting the 4 hours.Don’t give up hope, most babies start growing out of their reflux/MSPI by 12 months.wow…..I didn’t realize how much I have learned from the ladies here lol -
