Okay so Conner is 11.12 ounces, rounded off to 12 pounds.
12 pounds= 5.5kgHe is currently on 1.5ML 2 times daily for Zantac. Im trying to make sure he is getting his max dose, as he seems to be getting a tolerance to what he is on now.I also have him on 22.5 of his Prevacid which is what Marci-kids recomends.Does anyone know how much Conner can get of the Zantac, or what his max dose would be?ThanksDecember 12, 2008 at 12:36 pm #59495AnonymousInactiveLaura or Erin, or one of our dosing “experts” 🙂 will chime in, but they will need to know how many mgs per ml is the zantac? it shoudl be on the prescription bottle.
hang in there!!!!December 12, 2008 at 1:12 pm #59497AnonymousInactivelol thats a complicated question. BUT I can go get the bottle and see if it is on there.
Okay this is what the bottle saysZantac 75MG/5ML SyrupSub>Ranitidine 75MG/5ML Syrup ACTAV MIDand directions to take 1.5ML twice daily.Hope this helps.December 12, 2008 at 2:10 pm #59499AnonymousInactiveOkay I am not a dosing expert I hate math LOL, but his max dose is 10mg/kg… so if he is 5.5kg then his max dose is 55mg. Your bottle is 15mg/ml so currently he is 3ml/day which is 45 mg and he can have as much as 55mg/day so you could add .66ml somewhere. Maybe give 2ml in the morning and 1.6ml later in the day or just split the 3.66 ml/day up as you would like. Hopefully Laura will check this soon and correct me if I am wrong. I usually leave the math up to her! LOL.
December 12, 2008 at 2:17 pm #59500AnonymousInactiveLmao Beth, I did realize that the Zantac has been helping him, when I pulled him off of it and left him on prevacid he did okay, but not great. But when he is on both he does awesome, I have however noticed that he needed a bit of tweaking so hopefully giving him a max dose of both meds will do the trick.
Also, is 8 ounce bottles to much for an 8 week old? He is acting like he is starving to death, but is content after 8 ounces.December 12, 2008 at 5:01 pm #59506hellbenntKeymasterhi there, I cannot answer about oz of formula, lol but beth did the math right as far as I can tell~
5.5kilos x 10 = 55mgs total for the dayso divide by 15 to get mls =3.7mls total for the day of zantac, divided up however is best for baby- 2 doses given- at least 4hrs seperate from the prevacidso it can be:1ml + 2.7mls1.5mls + 2.2mls2mls + 1.7mlsetcDecember 12, 2008 at 11:12 pm #59516AnonymousInactiveOkay awesome! So I did 1.5ML this morning, 4 hours later his prevacid, then 4 hrs more I gave him 2.2ML of his Zantac. He will need his prevacid again tonight, but we are having our nightly issues of wanting to eat everything in sight, he would probably eat all of walmart if he could. So I gave him a little extra formula to help calm him, so now I have to wait until 3am for his prevacid.
I have no idea what is going on with him suddenly. He did well and this past week starting the 7th, he has been extremely fussy again. It was at night at first, not sleeping, being awake every hour to eat, sleeping another hour, waking up fussy to eat, and of course I didnt feed him every hour lol. Then during the day he would sleep perfectly. BUT now it’s fussiness during the day AND everytime after he eats. He is pooping well so it’s not constipation. He has also started drooling like a mad man, but only at night. UHG! I wish babies came with trouble shooting manuals.December 13, 2008 at 9:09 am #59519hellbenntKeymasterI truly don’t know about formula fed babies, but I always fed my baby when hungry…?
December 13, 2008 at 12:19 pm #59527AnonymousInactiveLaura- Thats okay, not many people do know how much a baby should be or shouldn’t be eating at certain ages because all babies are different and all mothers are different. Im scared im going to over feed him and do more damage then good, but I also feel horrible for making him sit there screaming because he is hungry an hour later after eating.
He did better lastnight, actually slept this time. I do think the Zantac is working for him, it just needs to be adjusted from time to time. I will figure it all out, but for now im just going to feed him when he is hungry aslong as he doesnt seem to be bothered by it.December 13, 2008 at 4:14 pm #59535AnonymousInactiveAlso, is 8 ounce bottles to much for an 8 week old? He is acting like he is starving to death, but is content after 8 ounces.
This too should be weight dependent. The calculation we use is 2 – 2.5 oz per lb per day and that given in a minimum of 6 bottles per day. If he’s 12lbs any bottle over 5oz is pushing his capacity.
