Okay so this morning I noticed a rash developing on Conners arms. It starts under his armpits and goes down the inside of his arm to his wrist. It’s red not blotchy or raised, but it looks like someone took a red marker and colored his arm with it.
Now im wondering if he is getting the rash as a side effect from his meds, since they upped it to the max amount, OR if it is the store brand lavender baby wash. I know babies can also get rashes and have a reaction to cereals if started before 4 months, and he is on baby oatmeal, so thats something else I need to consider. It makes it hard to eliminate what is causing this rash since he is on so many different things. I haven’t changed laundry detergant so I dont think it’s that. How do I begin the elimination of products to see if the rash goes away, how long do I wait once removing a product to see any changes? The only rashes I have ever dealt with were diaper rashes lol so im a bit confused on where to start.BTW: Conner had an excelent night lastnight, he stayed up (happily) until midnight watching the victoria’s secret fashion show with daddy lol. I noticed a huge change in his attitude, he is smiling more, laughing(trying) and is more content, he no longer fusses when he is tired, he just goes right to bed, but now he fusses when he is awake and no one plays with him lol.December 4, 2008 at 5:01 pm #59206hellbenntKeymasterI would first think of the lavendar baby wash and then look at the oatmeal- what brand? gerber has milk & soy…beechnut is ‘safe’ as are other brands- check the ingredients and look for ‘hidden’ milk and soy…

This is kinda sucky, but you could always re-use the wash after it clears up in a small area and see if it reappears to confirm it.
If the rash looks ANYTHING remotely like this, I would look at what he is eating. This is what happens to my DS2 if he has anything listed in the food list in my siggy…and I know it looks like ALLERGY rash but he comes up negative for food allergies!December 4, 2008 at 11:30 pm #59219AnonymousInactiveLaura- I didnt think of that….maybe I should read the ingrediants on the oatmeal.
Jilly- His rash doesnt look quite like that. It resembles more of a bad sunburn. I wish he was awake so I could get a picture of it, I can tomorrow morning when he gets up.
Here is the list of ingrediants on the Gerber oatmeal, Now Conner is not MSPI but he does have a severe milk allergy. Im not as familiar with ALL milk or soy protiens so maybe there is something in it you would notice as a milk protien.
Ingrediants- Oat flour, Vitamins and minerals tri-and dicalcium phosphate, electrolytic iron, zinc solphate, alpha tocopheryl acetate vitamin E, niacinamide A B Vitamin, pyridoxine hydrochloride Vitamin B 6, Riboflavin Vitamin B 2, Thiamin mononitrate Vitamin B 1, folic acid A B vitamin, Vitamin B 12 cyanocobalamin, Tuna oil source of DHA, Gelatin, soybean oil, soy lecithin, mixed tocopherols for freshness.
So…should I go organic lolDecember 4, 2008 at 11:33 pm #59220AnonymousInactive* I want to FIX a comment I made lol* We are not sure IF Conner is MSPI. He seems happier on the soy…but what if it is indeed the soy formula causing the rash?
December 5, 2008 at 7:50 am #59223hellbenntKeymasterwell, the thing that stands out to me is the tuna oil- weird! I know, but jonah reacted to tuna when I ate it (I was breastfeeding)
also the soy products-the best way to tell is to stop the lavendar bath, stop the gerber cereal (well known for causeing intolerances in many reflux babiess) and see what happens. THEN if nothing improves after a good week to 2 weeks, then try a nonsoy formula…unfortunately w/ intoerances there is no ‘test’ just a lot of trial & error…hard.December 5, 2008 at 9:34 am #59227AnonymousInactiveThank you Laura, Im going to eleminate his lavender bath first and see where that gets me, If that doesnt work, then I will try to eleminate the oatmeal. We will see…. I wish babies could talk lol
