I have posted here about my Gracie before but still haven’t figured out what is wrong with her. She is 7 weeks old and has been on Prevacid for about 3 weeks. It seems to help but we have a very hard time with her during the day and some bad nights. During the day she is SUPER fussy. When we hold her we have to be in constant motion and she is usually only happy when she is in her bouncy chair and we are constantly bouncing it. If we stop she cries. I am very confused by this. She is never content and always fussing and I mean always unless we are bouncing that chair. We have had upper GI done and blood work to make sure everything is ok and they said it all came back good. She is very gassy and tooting all the time. We have been reffered o a pediatric GI but that appointment is not until Dec 29th. So if anyone can give me some ideas as to why she is this fussy that would be great. Is anyone elses baby fussy all day with never being content. My husband and I are just so tired and I don’t know whats wrong.
December 1, 2008 at 1:09 pm #59101AnonymousInactiveThe 2 things I would consider are:
1) Prevacid dose
2) MSPI
Even when my ds was on the max Prevacid dose (for his age/weight) he was still miserable like your Gracie. It wasn’t until we got his intolerances figured out that I didn’t have to hold/wear him 8-12 hrs/day.
HTH & hang in there…
December 1, 2008 at 1:34 pm #59102AnonymousInactiveI agree with Erin. The constant tooting makes me think that she is having trouble with whatever she is eating.. what type of formula is she on? And, I would double check her Prevacid dose to make sure it is high enough/that you are giving it correctly, etc.
December 1, 2008 at 1:56 pm #59103AnonymousInactiveHer current formula is the Similac Sensitive and she has been on this the longest..about 4 weeks. Before that they started her with Enfamil then the Soy then regular Similac then the Similac Sensitive. We tried her on the hypo Enafamil one but she would not drink it she refused and that stuff smells horrible I can’t blame her 🙂 Her Prevacid she is on 7.5 solutab 1 a day.
December 1, 2008 at 4:19 pm #59104AnonymousInactiveThe Prevacid dose is really quite low, so my first suggestion would be to look at http://www.marci-kids.com to see what the recommended dose is for her age/weight.
Also, when trying to switch to a hypo formula, try doing it gradually… adding just an ounce to her regular formula for one day, and then gradually increasing the new formula each successive day.December 1, 2008 at 7:22 pm #59110AnonymousInactiveI agree w/ Naomi… I would check out the marci-kids site & try for a higher dose.
I also agree w/ her previous post w/ the constant gas/discomfort is most likely an intolerance.
Keep us posted!
December 1, 2008 at 10:23 pm #59117AnonymousInactiveYes, I agree with the others. Her dose is VERY low and she most likely has an intolerance from what you’ve described as well! Try mixing the hypoallergenic formula gradually so she’ll get used to the taste. Hang in there…there are still options and hopefully you can find your happy baby soon!
December 2, 2008 at 9:58 am #59119AnonymousInactiveI talked to her doctor about giving her a higher dose and they won’t do it. They say that her dose is acurate. So no luck there. Does anyone know if there are any possible side effects for babies taking Prevacid?Charla2008-12-02 09:59:13

December 3, 2008 at 9:39 am #59151AnonymousInactiveThanks for all the info. This site is like my savior! Ya’ll have helped me so much.
Also is there anything else you can give a baby for gas besides the mylacon drops? They don’t seem to work for us.December 3, 2008 at 6:14 pm #59165hellbenntKeymastermylanta cherry supreme- the cherry supreme doesn’t have any aluminum in it- check the ingredients & you’ll see- it’s the adult kind- there isn’t any children’s- it’s safe for newborns even- give in 1ml doses up to 5mls over the course of the day- of you see loose stools then back off a bit
December 5, 2008 at 10:50 am #59232AnonymousInactiveI have been thickining my LOs formula for sometime now per ped because it helps her reflux and she doesn’t gulp and swallow much air and it run down her face. Well when I talked to the ped today about her extreme gassyness and they said it was probably the rice cereal. Is there any other kind of cereal that may not be as gassy? I have tried the RS formula for thickening but it still wasnt thick enough so I have to put something in there. I just dont know what would be best
December 5, 2008 at 7:52 pm #59265hellbenntKeymastertry oatmeal or barley and use beechnut brand or any brand that does not have milk or soy in the ingredients…
